Is she all that? Let's examine:
She does have a unique delivery VISUALLY. Her crazy facial expressions make her different from any of her other female counterparts. Lyrically, she's a total slouch. Aside from a clever line here or there, she's obviously imitating Lil' Wayne's rap style and her subject matter is scattered most of the times and lacking focus. Her vocal delivery is similar to L'Trimm with subject matter like Lil Kim. While in some ways she could be considered "different" - different does not mean good. I think its safe to say that talent-wise, as an MC, she is nothing significant. Now, let's look at her pop appeal: She's pretty. I know beauty is very subjective but I don't think anyone being honest could make a case for her not being an attractive woman, even if like her idol barbie, she's mostly plastic. She's openly bisexual with a seeming lean towards women. This makes her Hollywood/pop/industry friendly. For the last decade or so, the industry has embraced bisexual women with open arms and even promote it as often as possible when it can be used to sell merchandise. She wears outrageous outfits and hair. Often times, this is mistaken by many for being "cutting-edged" but as long as you can fool some of the people some of the time, that's enough for image creation in the biz. Most of her image is recycled and copied. The same can be said for most pop stars these days. Its not like we get a Grace Jones very often, but we get a Nicki Minaj every few years. She's sexually aggresive. Sex sells. While not quite as potty-mouthed as Lil Kim, she's pretty forward. She seems sleazy. This locks her in. The industry loves women who can seem to be sleazy at will. The seeming willingness to be with anyone at any time gives her a "universal appeal" because regular Joes and Janes think they could have a shot if they ever met her. She's non-threatening. Seen her interviews? Not exactly the brightest bulb. There's nothing an averge person likes more than a less-than-average woman. (Its a shame to say that but we know its true...egos, intimidation...you know the rest) She is NOT mentally or intellectually intimidating. She has a porn star name. When I first saw her pic and read her name, I thought she was a porn star. How could you not? I had no idea I'd see her in a video with Mariah that didn't have "sextape" in the title somewhere. So, in conclusion, is she all that? The answer is no and yes. As a performer and an MC, she's nothing special. As a trendy pop icon, she has potential. She's a "personality" like Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, The Octomom, etc. | |

The best female MCs however (Queen Latifah, Monie Love, Left Eye, MC Lyte, etc), were the antitheses of these latest types of "whore" rappers, and they were successful as well.
