That's kind of true, but I only liked it for the hip-hop, r&b, and pop, but as I said before, that's not saying much.

Every decade has had its share of bad music...

With a few exceptions, during the late 70s disco sucked, during the late 80s dance/pop and hair metal sucked, during the late 60s hippie bands sucked, during the late 90s alternative bands sucked and during the late 00s shit-hop acts sucked...

In fact, it's surprising how many of the bad artists/bands appear during the late years of each decade... hmmm

If that's so then the '10s are shaping to be the big exception... Shit music is here right from the beginning lol (even the '00s started good lol lol)

lol lol lol yeahthat
We've started the 10s with the Drakes, the Cyruses, the Jonases and the Youn Moneys shit... Sometimes, for the sake of music I wish the world could truly come to an end in 2012,lol

By the way, I would say the 80s and the 90s are ex-aequo on my last: Pop and new wave were good music with acts like Duran Duran Michael Jackson, Prince, Cindy Laupe, Kate Bush, etc... But some real lame shit was out there too : FM rock (Van Halen, Foreigner, Journey).. An the 90s had some good times too, especially in hip hop (Wu Tang, Tribe called quest) and R&B (hummm most of my favorite babymakin music was made at that time : Babyface, Boyz II me, Keith weat, R Kelly...) cool
Everybody is somebody, but nobody wants to be themselves.

nod You're right

I still hope that the general pop/rock/R&B/electronic music will recover by the mid '10s, I mean, nothing can be as bad as many of the current "top" artists/bands right now, so better years must be ahead of us, I hope...

[70s] Where the full 60's bloom grew like a vine on nearly every wall.

[60s] Astonishing foundation for decades of inspiration.

[80s] Nearly the last great gasp within the mainstream tap.

[90s] Women come fully out of the closet on the enormous but all-to-rarefied tails of Billie Holiday, Joni Mitchell, Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin. Angst rules.

[00s] In some ways, quality music is probably flowing in greater volume than ever before. But the culture has changed and the river redirected much lower. Music as a mainstream, cultural outlet is no longer held in the same regard. Even if someone were to come along to produce greater music than has ever been heard before, it wouldn't hold nearly the same weight.

I think inspiration and talent remain a constant, but it's hard to compete with decades where some of the most profound cultural changes in human history were occurring in concert with them being held up as the larger soundtrack for hundreds of millions. Now the only mainstream music show is American Idol.

[50s] So unbelievably important and started so much, but not quite as grand as the decades it would inspire.

===

I think that we all lived through at least part of the great musical renaissance. Count your lucky charms!

Actually its a tie for first between 70's and 80's
2nd is 90's
3rd is 00's

I did grow up with access to 50's and 60's, because my parents are twenty-years apart. But I can't honestly rate those decades.

Yeah, don't mind music from the 90s, as I said before Hip-Hop, R&B, and Pop, but still 80s and 70s music was better.

On the whole, maybe you're right, but I think rock was way better in the 90's than in the decades around it. Actually there were only a handful of bands I liked, but that's a handful more than in the 80's or now

I loved the Rock of the 90's..from 1990 to 1994 , it seemed like it lost it's edge after

1. Kurt Cobain died
2. Guns N Roses disbanding most of the original members

yeah. It's tough to say actually, because there's good stuff from all eras.

I guess I liked the trends in other decades (60's rock & soul, 70's soul, 90's alternative & hip hop), but see the 80's & 00's as very pop on the whole.

But I didn't actually like that many grunge bands, I just liked grunge better than 80's heavy metal. So maybe it's just an impression that I have, because I there are bands that I like right now & from the 80's, despite my low opinion of those decades on the whole. shrug

Hmmmm I'm a bit surprised 90's isn't as that high for many of you..I guess you gotta be a HUGE Grunge lover like myself to be into it I guess:D .

That's right. The 90s should have been my favorite decade, as I was born in 1980, but I felt pretty alienated from all of the depressed, druggy grunge music and hardcore rap.

90s music was in a BIG prozac kick. Its hard to listen to it and not have your mood severely altered. But then again, some days I'm in the mood for it nod

Anyway, here:

70s(The most experimental/intersting decade in music ever!)

40s(Big Bands were passe and their vocalists were ALL the rage instead, not to mention the new craze; Bebop)

50s(Gave birth to music that influenced EVERYTHING after it, its hard to be a big R&B fan and not develop an addiction to the 50s).

80s(Gave birth to my FAVE funk music).

60s(Soul was the BIGGEST escape, just as much MGM musicals were in the 40s).

Late 20s & 30s(Two words; Duke Ellington).

2. 70s (I think the '70s is the best decade for music objectively, but living through the '80s gives it the slight edge for me)

4. 90s
5. 00s
6. 50s
