Young groups after the J5 took off ...

These groups came along after he J5 hit it big in the early 70s. I'm not gonna include the Five Stairsteps, The Osmonds and the Sylvers cause we all know about them, but these are some others from around that time period.

Jimmy Briscoe and the Little Beavers; Sugar Brown

Brotherly Love: Mama's Little Baby (Loves Lovin')

Spoon Bread: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart

Panderosa Twins Plus One: You Send Me

Brighter Side of Darkness: Loves Jones
PRINCE: Always and Forever
MICHAEL JACKSON: Always and Forever

Very interesting. Never heard of any of these songs
before. LMAO at the photo of the Ponderosa twins plus one.
I know their asses burned up in the Polyester suits in that heat.
I wonder how old them twins and plus one are now.

love love jones. i was little little when it came out, but somehow the one thing i remember from my childhood is the 70s music b/c it was so great.

also, 21st century came out with two singles in '75 that sounded so much like the j5 down to the double-leads that sounded similar to mj and jermaine: 'child' and 'can you remember the rain'.

Good stuff, LilBlue. Jimmy Briscoe & The Little Beavers are a great group. Love their debut album. The Ponderosa Twins + One also had some really good stuff on their album. My favorites are their cover of "You Send Me" and "Take Me Back".
When it comes to Brighter Side Of Darkness, in my opinion, "I Owe You Love" and "Oh Baby" are stronger cuts than "Love Jones". Not that "Love Jones" is bad or anything, though lol
On the Org since 2005.

Family Plann - "Come On Let's Do The Breakdown" 1972

http://www.youtube.com/wa...dsa1TKQ5iA

Family Plann - "Shake It Up" 1978

http://www.youtube.com/wa...8hcTeVKNNs

This band was formed in the late 60s in Toledo, Ohio, led by my uncle, the late Kim Ross on guitar/vocals, my father, Kenyon Ross on drums/vocals and my other uncle on Kevin Ross on Lead Vocals & Keys, and also included their cousin, Keith Clark on Bass and their friend, Herb Moon on Percussion and Vocals. They were all teenagers @ the time...

For most of the 70s, they were signed to Drive Records, a division of T.K. Records (Which was also K.C. and The Sunshine Band's Label). They relocated to Atlanta, GA. in 1973, and enjoyed regional success. Though unfortunately, Kim Ross, the principal songwriter in those days passed away in 12/08, Kenyon and Kevin still perform in the Atlanta area to this day, known as The Ross Brothers Band. I perform with them as well as my guitarist, Willie from my band, EXILES OF THE NATION.

Their biggest hit was a song called "Sexy Summer", which was on the charts back in 1975. Their 1972 single, "Come On Let's Do The Breakdown" was included on a 2007 compilation, "Absolute Funk 4", which is on amazon.com. (They're on the CD cover as well...)...Google and search for "Family Plann" on ebay..

Cool, were they formed before the Jackson 5 or even the Five Stairsteps? Their from Ohio, right down the street from the Steps/J5, so I bet they knew off each other.
