Funk Hall Of Fame I'm the president of this election and I'm starting a Funk HOF. The rules are simple: You must've made some form of funk music. And you must have at least 2 albums to qualify for this Hall. Sorry, no one hit or one album wonders allowed. Just the true and pure funk artists. Since there's a limit amount of true funk artists out there, the first inauguration will feature 6 inductees. Each year after that 3 or 4. I know, I know! But what can you do for such a rare art form. So here's a list of who I think should be our first inductees:
1. James Brown 2. Sly & The Family Stone 3. Parliament-Funkadelic 4. Prince 5. Earth, Wind & Fire 6. The Ohio Players How's that for a list? Peace and be wild!

Sounds good! Oh, wait... LoDog said: 4. Prince
Why the heck is Prince on that list then? On the Org since 2005.

The Isley Brothers should replace #4.
Just saying lol | |

If we're talking about pure FUNK, remove #4 and add Rick James! I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Don't forget Ms. Betty Davis. She's the funk rock queen. Her 1st 2 LP's are crucial.

Johnny 'Guitar' Watson The Time Mutiny Trouble Funk Jimmy Castor Chic Zapp Slave The Time were funky in large part due to #4. While I agree The Time as well as #4 easily deserve to be inducted into a Funk Hall Of Fame, I don't think either should be included as it's first, second, and maybe even perhaps third set of inductees. . I'd pick Blondie over ABBA any day to add to the list. "Rapture" is pretty damn funky. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Curtis & Stevie could be in the second annual Hall of Fame with Prince. Funk had a lot of legends lol

Why the hell is Prince in the first class of inductee's?
The Jame Brown Revue Sly & the Family Stone Parliament-Funkadelic after those three, it's kind of hard to pick a next three. Curtis started doin' his funk with the Impressions in 68. Dyke and the Blazers, Charles Wright & the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band and the Meters are three other bands from the mid-late 60's who got started. Kool & the Gang, Earth Wind & Fire and the Ohio Players could round out the other 3 though. PRINCE: Always and Forever
MICHAEL JACKSON: Always and Forever ----- Live Your Life How U Wanna Live It

This was Miles in 1973 during his extreme Funkay Period. He said in his autobiography, he intended to go this direction after being inspired by Jimi James, & Sly. On the congas is a young Mtume and on bass is a young Michael Henderson. Notice Miles playing an electric trumpet hooked thorugh a Wah-wah pedal (ala Hendrix).

This is my man during Bitches Brew-era circa 1971. Again I stress this ain't 4 the faint at heart.
So Mr. President (LoDog) can u dig this or is it way 2 funkay 4 u 2 handle. U see just like wit jazz & rock, Miles took funk 2 a whole new level!! [Edited 3/22/10 0:05am]

Why the heck is Prince on that list then? Yeah I saw that too.....but this IS a website dedicated to him so.. "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Last post 4 those that still doubt Miles' impact on the funk. Check this jam out called Honky Tonk (1970)! Again with Michael Henderson on bass and John McGlaughlin on guitar.

Ladies - Where are the ladies at?
Chaka, Betty Davis, Lyn Collins, Lady T - all of these women carved out careers for themselves in a very tough field - they did not come to play. There are some amazing writing and producing credits earned over the years by all of them.

Definately the obvious ones first that have been played to death over the years such as James Brown, Parliament/Funkadelic, The Ohio Players, etc.
Then the Isley Brothers who have been around forever. Then definately The Barkays. They've been around since 1967. Then Kool and The Gang. They were around for years even before their disco and later pop stuff. Then get to the great late 70s/early 80s artists such as Rick James, Prince, Slave, Lakeside, Cameo, Con Funk Shun, Roger and Zapp, The Dazz Band, Brick, etc. Andy is a four letter word.
