^ Unfortunately he's kinda Prince-like in that he's taken down all his video clips from youtube. So if anyone finds any cool clips please share. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Yeah, it's weird...maybe he's happier not making music now, or something, but for some reason, it seems he's also out to erase all evidence of the "Lewis Taylor" personna from the internet...I don't understand it, but, whatever.... What really get's me about it all though, seeing him live, is that he really seemed to be enjoying himself onstage--seemed like he was really in his element.... I guess he just hated the rest of what goes along with being in the biz.....I dunno.... .... " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

Since my friend hip me to him I've been trying to find out stuff about him and it's really hard. He did a good job of removing evidence of his "persona". I did find the video for Stoned pt 1 somewhere.
Btw P, you are one lucky dude to have been able to see him live! Did he play "Hit it and Quit it" then? Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Btw P, you are one lucky dude to have been able to see him live! Did he play "Hit it and Quit it" then? Yes Ndeed!!! They smoked it! There was a part in the show when Lewis and his band were doing covers of Prog Rock tunes by Yes, Edgar Winter , and Todd Rundgren, , and without warning (and without skipping a beat) they sailed straight into the Funkadelic tune! ... Nice. What YES song? That's really bizarre. In a good way.
So rank his albums. All I have is Stoned Pt1 and The Lost Album. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Don't remember which one offhand, --I know they did Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love, Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein", Emerson Lake, and Palmer's Living Sin"..and I don't remember which Rundgren tune either... Everybody loves his 1996 debut as an instant classic, although I like his second album a little more...so, this is just my opinion, but here are my favorites... Lewis II Lewis Taylor Stoned Part I Limited Edition 2004 The Lost Album Stoned Part II Some of my favorite tuines are actually B-sides and Rare trax ..they used to all be on his website before it disappeared...I'll orgnote you about those...actually, some of them were included on the US release of Stoned...stuff Like the Stylistic's Stop Look, Listen and the acoustic versions of Track and Song are on iTunes...But other tracks like Waves, Lewis III, A Little Bit Tasty, Cherry Blossom and GotMeThinkingAllAboutIt are rare classics, IMO... ... Yea P...these would be great to have. Those acoustic tracks I believe were added on to the Lost Album which I have but since I can't get those others...well you know. I think I know what you're referring to on a few cuts, but I definitely think it was on purpose. I think he just loves the immediacy of the natural human voice--- with all it's emotion and imperfections, rather than try to "Auto-Tune" out any mistakes. I don't think any were completely off-key, though there may have been some that were sharp or flat here and there. In a way, they kinda remind me more of what jazz artists due with Blue Notes, those notes between the standard 12 pitches. I really love his vocal arrangements overall, I think they're brilliant. ... Pali and blackguitaritz hipped me to him years ago. The cat is unreal.
I always kinda dug his "off key" vocal style. That was kind of his signature.

yeah, and I'm sure it might annoy some who have perfect pitch--but I agree with SPYZFAN1 --it was like it was a part of his signature style....like you said though, maybe not for every taste...I was adding earlier that it reminded me a bit of what Jazz artists do with Blue Notes, those notes falling between the 12 standard pitches--to some listeners, the notes just sound plain wrong, .... ... Thank God he doesn't use Autotune. His wide slow vocal vibrato can make it seem like he's out of tune - but he isn't.

Maybe the most talented cat to show up in the past decade.
Thanks to a very benevolent Orger , and what i've been able to scrounge up on my own, i've got a great deal of his solo material. The points expressed in the second link of paligap's earlier post in this thread pretty much lays out why he's gone underground. Some folks just want no parts of the "celebrity" component of the music biz (as opposed to others where it seems that's all they crave).
