She has a point and is speaking the truth but it's just a shame that it bothers her to see black men with white women. I don't think she can help the way she feels and it's this country's fault for it. But as far as a black woman having a hard time finding a mate, there is a whole world of other men out there besides just black men. A lot of black men aren't limiting themselves to just black women and she doesn't have to limit herself either. I see it this way, if white people are free to date every race under the sun, then why can't black people do the same if they wish to do so?

As far as Black women are concerned, it's not that simple. According to surveys and marriage records and what I see in real life, we are the least desirable mates for other races in the US. I mean, it's easy for me to say Jill should drop Black men altogether and date a Caucasian/non-Black dude, but what is not easy is actually finding one that is genuinely attracted to Black women. It's sad, but white/non-Black women are apparently the top choices for men, and that's where the resent comes from.....Black men can get an race they want, but the same cannot be said for Black women, for some strange reason.

Oh, they're attracted to black women because they have been raping them for centuries and to this day, they go down to the ho stroll and pick up a black hooker. Yeah, these are men that are just looking for sex but there are also white men out there who secretly are actually attracted to black women. They just won't get in a relationship with one without hiding because they don't have the balls to stand up to the racism they will have to face from other white people. From what I've seen, there are black racists out there but there is a hell of a lot more white racists and a lot of the white racists don't just express their dislike about the interracial relationship but will try to do things to end it which sometimes ends in violence.

Jill Scott has had plenty of relationships and a marriage despite her size.

While people are free to choose whom they love, if you automatically rule a black woman out because she is black because of some perceived issue with us, it makes you an asshole.

Jill Scott is not a racist. This piece she wrote is about the above.

Jill says in a song "everyhing ain't for everybody". If what she said speaks to you, then you'll hear where she's coming from. If it ain't about you, keep the party movin'.

I have seen too many black men put black women down (especially on this fucking site) to dismiss what Jill is talking about.

Jill is not a racist but her argument is a misplaced. This isn't as much about race as it is what our culture considers "attractive". For the sake of the argument, she would be smart not to confuse the two, IMHO.
I don't think her argument is misplaced at all but I can see where you are coming from. Like I said on the other thread, black women are at the bottom of the totem pole.

I agree and disagree with your post. Black women are very desired sexually by all races of men but are not considered marriageable. This has to do with black being a stigma. Many men (including black men) feel that marrying a black women will hinder their chance for upward mobility.

Hmm...I wasn't aware of that. Kinda hard to believe. But yeah, the rest of your post are some of the reasons why Black women have a hard time with men of other races. Too many stereotypes. confused

As someone who dates interracially, there are plenty of white men genuinely attracted to black women, some even prefer us. The last white guy I was involved with dug me, not because of the color of my skin, but because we connected on so many levels.

Yeah, that's unfortunately true, but I was referring to men who are not sexual perverts/rapists/molesters. I meant normal non-Black men just looking for a girlfriend and/or wife. They usually look away from us, and I can believe that it's because of the reason you stated, negative stereotypes, and also because many are just not interested in our physical features. disbelief

What I meant by black women being desired sexually by different races of men has to do with the sexualized images of black women in videos and movies which are shown all over the world. I have heard and seen arab, indian, hispanic men all trying to pick up on black women because they think they're "easy" and loose. I could give you tons of personal stories but it would take too much time. These men would never think of marrying a black women, though.

Gee i wonder how she feels about the Kardashians or Seal, Jill needs to take herself to NYC where its rare to see a "same race" relationship, myself included, i have always dated latin women, because they tend to be the most "free" of racist thoughts like Ms.Scott's heard here. And i know people say "seperate the person from their music" well sorry if your asshole, your an asshole, and something like this rings just as much as John Mayer, though its not getting any traction, it also rings a memory of Lauryn Hills statement during her "The Score" days, when she said "White people shouldnt be allowed to buy the Fugees album" which is why i can care less about Lauryn's ass ever recording again.

Here we go again. I don't understand why non-black people piss their pants when black folks talk about racial issues. Then they have the nerve to call black folks racist because these issues make them uncomfortable. Racism will always be a problem, so black folks are always going to talk about racial issues. Build a bridge and get over it.

I also don't understand why some of the other black folks are mad at her. Black folks need to stop ostrasizing other black folks that march to the beat of a different drummer. You may not agree with her opinion, but she does have a point. There are a whole lot of single black women out there. Many black women are single mothers and being a parent is extremely difficult. Some of you may not want to get married or have a long-term relationship, but other women do and they're having a hard time finding suitable mates. I know some people that are going through this right now. They don't have a problem with interracial relationships. They are frustrated because while black men don't have problems finding a mate, the same thing can't be said about black women.

This is impart the crux of the matter but I think black women time and energy is being spent in the wrong direction. Sadly, to many Black men are stuck on stupid, lazy, and/or too narcissistic to see how this involves them as it relates to the well being of our community. Demographics are very important to the viability the sustainability of nations. Black people need to start asking ourselves why numbers, our numbers don't appear to give us all pause.

Black men are being marginalized out of communities at a rate that's so furious in most metropolitan cities when black women reach middle age we out number black men by 37 %. Those number jump to almost half by the age of 60, 48%. Diseases, mass incarceration, gun violence, uneducated, chronic unemployment, and underemployed are the main reasons why black women can't find suitable mates. Those suitable mates are in jail, in the grave, dying of: gun violence, diabetes, high blood pressure, strokes, lung/prostrate cancer and AIDS), high school drop outs, drug addicts, and convicted felons. Until there's some type of concerted effort to address the causes that leads to the affect, Black women like Ms. Scott will still have an issues with interracial marriages and or relationships.

Of course this is a complex issue: I've address just one of the main issues. There are others: the lying and psychological gamesmanship be played out in black relationships. I've been waiting since the Black Power Movement for use to speak truth.. author Michele Wallace tried and was railraod out of the community on rail. the band plays on. neutral

I think the racism that they will face from other white people is the main reason they won't date black women. When I was in high school, to whites, I was the "nigger lover" of the school. I simply just didn't give a fuck and as far as I was concerned, they all could kiss my ass. But there was a very popular white football player who dated the black cheerleader who was beautiful. With any other couple, the football player and the cheerleader, they would have been the most popular couple in school. Well, this couple was very popular too...they were popular for being hated. A lot of that guy's football buddies were no longer his buddies when he started dating that black girl. And all those white bitches (ones who previously thought he was all that) were constantly downing him. That relationship didn't last long at all.

What does he previously being a JW have to do with anything? She's previously a JW.

Anywho, I have zero problem with whomever black men date. If a black guy is dating a white woman as a way of striking out against a black woman then fuck him and I'm better off without his ass.

This is the best post so far on this subject. You appear to be very well read. I like Michelle Wallace. Are you familiar with the daniel moynihan report? In a nutshell, this report basically blamed the problems of the black community on the black woman. It stated that black women were to dominant and undermining black men. This report was accepted by a lot of black men in the 60s including those in the black power movement, which was very sexist and contradictory ( the men talked black but slept white). This bullshit report I believe started the tensions between black men and women that we see today.

I agree and disagree with your post. Black women are very desired sexually by all races of men but are not considered marriageable. This has to do with black being a stigma. Many men (including black men) feel that marrying a black women will hinder their chance for upward mobility.

And there you have it. rolleyes confused

I don't care I stated my opinion like everybody else lol I said Jehovah witness because she brought it up , how she was raised and how she shouldn;t judge people by their color but then the rest of her statement is stating other wise. I don't agree with what she said so by that she needs to sit down somewhere. Oh well. LOL. I'm not going to go back and forth lol

While I do not agree with you about the context in which Jill brought up her JW background, I do apologize if it felt as if I was attacking you for your opinion on that part.

Humility, something you have in spades and something I must wear around my finger to maintain. Kudos to you.

God? Sorry, God has nothing to do with this at all. He's too busy wondering whether or not he should punish Prince for not sending him that Lotusflower T-shirt.

Jill is speaking out against black men discriminating against black women. there is nothing wrong with that.

I highly doubt that the male or female was plotting on classism when they found happiness within each other.

Real love is not exclusive like that.

Folks would be better off understanding and welcoming relationships made in love and harmony.

peace
