I don't like Timberlake's music or sound. I'm more into the REAL soul brothas like Frankie Beverly, Teddy Pendergrass, Johnny Gill, Peabo Bryson and Phil Perry. It's funny...all my life, R&B and Soul music has been where my roots are. While every-1 else was listenin' to J Geils Band or Cheap Trick and Pat Benatar, I was already submerged so deep inside Natalie Cole's early retertoire and Ashford & Simpson's stuff. Then, it was Teena Marie,Mtume, Candi Staton, D Train and Zapp. To this day, I don't find much enjoyment in Rap, but find that I'm now comfortably resting inside the Neo Soul Movement (Erykah, N'Dambi, Jill Scott, etc...) I'm not too big on Robin Thicke either. He does nothing 4 me. That's very cool, but let me explain what I meant by mentioning those two names: Justin Timberlake = Wanna be Black, but stabs us in the back. Jon B (like Teena Marie) = Basically is Black, wouldn't abandon us for jack. Jon genuinely loves our culture and is married to a Black woman, like Robin Thicke. Justin, on the other hand, perpetrated and used "love" for Black people (Michael, Janet, Ciara, Timbaland, etc) just to get over and then forget who we are. I wasn't even thinking about their music. But thanks for answering. Man that has to be the best description of JT. Good Job!!!!

And if i'm not mistaken this was just a blog and I don't think she meant it to be a completely, thought out dissertation on her feelings about interracial dating. Her question IMO isn't about why black men marry white women but moreso about why so many refuse to even consider dating their own women, who look like their mothers and sisters. That's a valid question that deserves discussion amnong US to resolve. That rejection hurts in all kinds of ways and I think she was just trying to explore that. But instead, she's getting labeled racist by a bunch of fucking hypocrites some of whom broke their fucking necks to defend John Mayer's ass. So true. It is much clearer for me today than it was yesterday. I never really realized or heard that side of things before so probably publishing this "truthful confession" (c) Harlepolis was actually a positive move towards understanding and healing. To be honest I didn't even know what the hell John Mayer was getting at until this thread either

Secondly, she mentions love at the very end, and says that intellectually she can accept the idea that genuine love can exist between people of different races. That wasn't the section I was referring to. I was considering her immediate reaction to hearing about her friend's wife. Finally, where do you think I am "trying to put the shoe on the other foot"? I'm only taking her at her word: The moment she heard about the new wife's colour, she felt hurt. I'm not trying to argue with you. I don't even disagree with you, I'm just saying I think she could have phrased herself more clearly, if that's what she meant. Can't we be civil to each other? Who the hell isn't being civil? I swear, ya'll some sensitive muthafuckas and I ain't got the time nor inclination to walk on your eggshells. I don't know, I think rolling your eyes at me and telling me 'nice try' while completely disregarding my point (which, in essence, was agreeing with you) was pretty condescending, but then I suppose you're right, I am sensitive to this stuff. More fool me.

http://www.essence.com/re...racial.php Commentary: Jill Scott Talks Interracial Dating Friday, March 26, 2010 | 12:20 PM by Jill Scott You know the moment when you realize that fine, accomplished brother is with a White woman? Let's call it "the wince." Three-time Grammy Award-winning artist, writer, actress, philanthropist, mother and all-around Renaissance woman, Jill Scott gets to the root of our feelings on the matter. My new friend is handsome, African-American, intelligent and seemingly wealthy. He is an athlete, loves his momma, and is happily married to a White woman. I admit when I saw his wedding ring, I privately hoped. But something in me just knew he didn't marry a sister. Although my guess hit the mark, when my friend told me his wife was indeed Caucasian, I felt my spirit...wince. I didn't immediately understand it. My face read happy for you. My body showed no reaction to my inner pinch, but the sting was there, quiet like a mosquito under a summer dress. Was I jealous? Did the reality of his relationship somehow diminish his soul's credibility? The answer is not simple. One could easily dispel the wince as racist or separatist, but that's not how I was brought up. I was reared in a Jehovah's Witness household. I was taught that every man should be judged by his deeds and not his color, and I firmly stand where my grandmother left me. African people worldwide are known to be welcoming and open-minded. We share our culture sometimes to our own peril and most of us love the very notion of love. My position is that for women of color, this very common "wince" has solely to do with the African story in America. When our people were enslaved, "Massa" placed his Caucasian woman on a pedestal. She was spoiled, revered and angelic, while the Black slave woman was overworked, beaten, raped and farmed out like cattle to be mated. She was nothing and neither was our Black man. As slavery died for the greater good of America, and the movement for equality sputtered to life, the White woman was on the cover of every American magazine. She was the dazzling jewel on every movie screen, the glory of every commercial and television show. She was unequivocally the standard of beauty for this country, firmly unattainable to anyone not of her race. We daughters of the dust were seen as ugly, nappy mammies, good for day work and unwanted children, while our men were thought to be thieving, sex-hungry animals with limited brain capacity. We reflect on this awful past and recall that if a Black man even looked at a White woman, he would have been lynched, beaten, jailed or shot to death. In the midst of this, Black women and Black men struggled together, mourned together, starved together, braved the hoses and vicious police dogs and died untimely on southern back roads together. These harsh truths lead to what we really feel when we see a seemingly together brother with a Caucasian woman and their children. That feeling is betrayed. While we exert efforts to raise our sons and daughters to appreciate themselves and respect others, most of us end up doing this important work alone, with no fathers or like representatives, limited financial support (often court-enforced) and, on top of everything else, an empty bed. It's frustrating and it hurts! Our minds do understand that people of all races find genuine love in many places. We dig that the world is full of amazing options. But underneath, there is a bite, no matter the ointment, that has yet to stop burning. Some may find these thoughts to be hurtful. That is not my intent. I'm just sayin'. [Edited 3/28/10 13:18pm] Im a black man and I love my sistas, but I get a kick out of how they always wanna bring up slavery when they talk about their relationship problems and black men. LOL! You're HERE and it's 2010, so cut the crap. It's phoney. Get a life (AND a grip.) God don't like ugly. And ugly sounds a lot like you. Why don't you answer the question, "brotha"? What was your take on that whole John Mayer thing? And what's REALLY funny is that this fool has NO problem calling me vicious, racist, ugly, and ignorant on this thread for merely asking him a question. But sent me an orgnote apologizing for offending me and running down his "hood" credibility, throwing in his black godmother and zodiac sign for good measure. If he really meant that shit, he woulda said it on the thread and apologized for calling me all kinds of names when I didn't do that to him or anyone else. One more example of a white man saying one thing in public but doing something completely different in private where a black woman is concerned. Quite laughable [Edited 3/29/10 16:20pm]
