Many years ago (1996 I think), Patra was the main headliner for the New Orleans Reggae Festival. The organizers had her scheduled to take the main stage late Saturday Night. Be as it may, the crowd (especially the men) went nuts!

I love some Third World such as "Now That We Found Love", "Try Jah Love", "Sense Of Purpose", and even "Forbidden Love" which is a rap song mixed with reggae, however shit hop had not become widespread and contaminating to everything at the time yet. I've heard a few Bob Marley songs I like too such as "I Shot The Sheriff" and "No Woman, No Cry" and maybe a few others if I heard them. I also like "Oh Baby I Love Your Way" (I can't think of who sings it, Eric Clapton maybe?). Also, I like some of the reggae influenced songs from some of the white pop/rock groups of the early 1980s such as "Don't Stand So Close To Me" by The Police, "Come Dancing" (I can't think of the name of the group). I like some of the reggae influences in some of Grace Jones' songs like "Nipple To The Bottle". I like "Pass The Dutchie" by Musical Youth and "Unconditional Love" by Donna Summer and Musical Youth. There was also a slow jam by a female artist that sounded very reggaeish in the early 1990s that got a little airplay on mainstream R&B radio that I absolutely loved but it didn't become a hit or anything. I can't even remember anything about the song anymore. I just remember one of the lyrics talking about angels or something.

I might be able to get into reggae, pre shit hop era. But everything I've heard that sounds like reggae since the early to mid 1990s sounds completely shit hop infested and I can't stand the mere presence of shit hop in a song. Hell, even nowadays when I'm in a Mexican restaurant, I even hear shit hop all in the spanish songs. It's a damn epidemic.

I can't remember but I think the first time I remember hearing reggae contaminated by shit hop that really made an impact was ugly ass Shabba Ranks. After that, I can't remember ever hearing a reggae sounding song that didn't have it in it.
