Janet is NOT working on a new album Janet Jackson may have two songs in rotation — “Nothing” and her Pitbull team-up “Heartbeat Love” — but fans anxious to hear her follow-up to 2008’s Discipline have a long wait ahead of them: Jackson tells Rolling Stone she’s not currently working on an album.
Check out photos from Janet Jackson’s Rock Witchu Tour. “There was a time where I was actually in the studio and I was recording, but I’m not working on an album,” she says. “There have been a lot of record labels that have asked me to sit down and talk with them, but I don’t know if I want to do something completely independent, or go with a major.” Discipline was Jackson’s first disc on Def Jam after she left her longtime label Virgin. So what about the new songs? “Nothing” is a one-off she co-wrote and co-produced with Jermaine Dupri for the new Tyler Perry film Why Did I Get Married Too?, and the lyrics reflect the tensions and turmoil between characters, like Angela’s trust issues with Marcus (”You can even have the password to my phone”), as well as her own character Patricia’s guilt and regret over Gavin (”We should cherish every moment like it’s the last”). As for the second song, Jackson said she did it as a favor for Rodney Jerkins, for “fun.” When Jackson does return to the studio, she’s not sure whether she’ll work toward a classic pop album (as “Nothing” might indicate) or do something more dance club-oriented (like “Heartbeat Love”): “I haven’t decided on exactly where I want to go or what I want to do.” http://www.rollingstone.c...-an-album/ OMG! This is the worst day ever!!!

Least she ain't rushing to the studio like she did the last two albums. This is a good thing. Hopefully when she does resurface with a new album, it'll be fresh.

I agree. I've said this before, I'd rather her take her time and produce an inspired record, than have a failed attempt at something soley commercial.I can respect that. I think she got that acting bug again, especially with the positive feedback she's been getting from WDIGMT. She seems more genuinely excited about acting now versus trying to produce another hit. I hate it but I understand. On a sidenote: I think its also good that she's not completely sold on the traditional model of a label deal too. Its good she's considering the independent route. Don't rush it Baby.

I'm really happy with this news!
I thought it was a bit too soon for a new album anyway and Janet seemed to lack a direction. I like that she's more focused on acting for a change. It seems that she found a new way to express herself for the time being until she's ready for a new album. I really hope she takes her time and live life. That's the only way for her to find a direction again is to experience and think it through. With her last three albums she just rushed everything. It's not that bad. Remember when she used to make us wait every 4 years for an album!? Quality > Quantity

I'm disappointed but understand that its too soon for a new album. I think she needs to focus more on her acting & book. Live life and find herself. She seems to be evolving will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

This is a good thing. She can focus on acting for a while, and when she does come back with a CD, it'll be fresh and long-awaited. She's always had to put off films in the past because of her music schedule, and now maybe she can focus on films more. Particularly with the new all-star Tyler flick in the works. Yeah almost forgot about the book. That's been delayed for four years because of the albums.

Seriously though I'm glad Janet's looking at other options. She's got another film role in the works so at least she's finally getting her acting game going. Maybe she'll land her dream roles for action films soon enough who knows? The sky's really the limit for her. Then when she's comfortable, THEN she'll plan the new album. By then she'll be approaching 50 if she does a new one. She ain't that far off. It's only six years away.

#FAIL. Janet has always took big breaks between her albums. Her last two were the ones that she didn't. It has nothing to do with that boring ass fool. Deal.
