I think she's 'walked the line' before, i don't recall her calling anyone sugartits or denying the holocaust though. hmmm

I was actually being funny, but now I'm reminded that she did have a very public DUI. haha I was trying to detract from my first impulse to type, "She's a Jew hater?"

lol poor Diana. I remember her outrage at getting stripsearched at heathrow Airport, London, probably on youtube. I love her but...falloff Prince today could do with some of that treatment, "What you done with those card details son?" I'd wet myself laughing.

lol I remember her CNN interview from that period she got arrested.

"I WAS VIOLATED AND TREATED LIKE A CRIMINAL! cry " lol

One of the British comics interviewed for "The Essential Diana Ross" documentary said she heard that Diana was being "escorted peacefully and was served tea" and she chastised Ross for that. "A CUP OF TEA?!" lol

Film experience my ass. LOL!!!! Besides, you know she had to fuck Berry Gordy just to get some where. And the fact that he was also her baby's daddy was a plus!!!!!
lol

Contrary to popular belief, Berry Gordy did NOT want Diana to do "The Wiz". Plus she and Berry were on real bad terms at the time of the filming. During filming of "Mahogany", Diana slapped Berry hard in his grill after he kept admonishing her during the filming, Diana wanted to come home to tend to her kids and Berry thought Diana wasn't doing "her job" so Diana slapped him, his glasses flew and she screamed "I HATE YOU!" and left.
[Edited 3/25/10 11:21am]

She had better thank her lucky stars she wasn't kicking it with the Late James Brown back then or that would have ended differently!

James would have told her " Eat the damn cake Anna Mae"!!! cool

Someone like Diana would've probably scratched James with her nails. lol She could've been like Lyn Collins. James tried to fuck her up and Lyn was the only one that fought back. lol

You all must remember that Diana was one of the earliest "diva" pop stars. Think about this, in the 60s, when the Supremes exploded on the scene, no girl group was doing what they were doing. Sure, other girl groups were out there, but they didn't have the appeal that the Supremes did.

Their music was great for the time and their television appearances made them huge. From the trendy pedal pusher suits they wore on shows like Bandstand to the evening gowns and wigs they wore on Ed Sullivan, they were "hollywood" glamorous.

To every black family during that time, people were inspired when they someone that "looked" like them on television. If you talk to a lot of people who are in their 50s, 60s, or 70s, a lot of them will tell you how they would run to the television to see the Temps and Supremes perform on their favorite shows.

By the time Diana went solo, she raised the bar for performing at the time. She took what people like Barbara Streisand, Judy Garland, etc. were doing and made it even more glamorous.

You summed it up perfectly lol

I don't get it. She isn't that great of a singer and from what I hear, her personality is in the shitter. I mean, I get she is part of history, but really, I can't appreciate her

I only like a few of her songs, thus far. Twenty three, to be exact:) Her voice sounds the same too much for my ears. Don't get me wrong. She can sing, but she's not a great vocalist. She still has recorded some great cuts. The musical arrangements and vocal arrangements help me like her.

It's not just that. She was a PIONEER in F***** For Tracks and a career.

Once the Magic P**** hit, Smokey, Eddie Holland, Eddie Kendricks and most of all Berry, BG put his pimpin' hat on and made Diana and Motown household names first in music then in films. And she left Motown with only $161,000 in her account and asked "How could Berry do this to me?"

Happy Birthday today to Diana Ross.

Her voice isn't all that bad. It sounds like she's holding her nose, but I like it.

Nice one. Thanks for posting.

I must say that I have also never understood much of her appeal. I do like some of her songs, but her as a person, I don´t find her "magnetizing".
"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."
