Oh yes, Khaled has been a favourite musician of mine for a long time. You don't have to understand the language in order to appreciate the music, some of his grooves are really just magnificent. His voice is unique too and recognizable.

The early stuff might be too much for some but these I think include some of his best work:
* "Kenza" 1999
* "Sahra" 1996
* "N'ssi N'ssi" 1995 or 1993
* "1,2,3, soleils" 1999 (all songs are live versions of released songs)

I listen to songs like "Ya Aâchkou", "Ouelli el Darek" (great video, btw!) and the "1,2,3 soleils" album all the time.

He has mentioned James Brown as one of his main inspirations over the years.

Yeah, I know. But then again, what artist with an interest in so-called western music didn't listen to Brown when growing up back in the day? smile

I could totally see it nod

James Brown influenced a WILD RANGE of people that you wouldn't think that they got their schooling from him. But ALL of them have one thing in common, they all are rhythm driven,,,,and listening to Khaled's voice, I could connect the dots music
