i said all along, Prince should've given the Elixer material to Chante. would've gotten more traction i think. would've been way more interesting too. i like chante, but she never broke out. so no, she was never really "major"

scriptgirl said: Shorttrini, why am I cute? No, not for the whole thread, but I do get Tamia and Chante confused. Didn't they come out at the same time?
Chante came out before Tamia. Chante debuted around 89 or 90 with "Candlelight and You" (her first real hit) from the House Party 2 soundtrack. Tamia's official debut on Q's Juke Joint wasn't until 95. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Chante was considered "big", but not "major" on the adult r&b scene. She had a lot of songs that charted. "Chante's Got A Man" was her biggest hit. After Louil Silas left MCA, she was just kind of left to fiend for herself. Her duet projects with Kenny Lattimore were not very successful (thanks to LA Reid trying to market them as the new "Sonny and Cher" or "Marvin and Tammi"). Not to mention they released a double disc album of remakes/love songs and gospel. It was a decent project, but should have been dwindled down to one disc. When she signed to LaFace/Arista after her MCA contract had ended, she could have really expanded her fanbase with the right material. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Her 4th cd Exposed was real good. I think most people were
turned off by the Jermaine Dupri track Straight Up since it was something she normally didn't do. Here are a couple of favorites from Exposed. Don't laugh at my funk

I liked the song, but it didn't fit for Chante. THe album was good, though. You know they were dating at the time, so that is why he was on the album. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

It's funny you say that, because on some of songs, Bria sounds like Chante. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

There was controversy over her use of the word n*@#er. Some radio stations here in NY, refused to play it, even the edited version. It soon died down, though. This thread is really making miss Ms. Moore. I remember how shocked I was when the man in Bitter was revealed to be R. Kelly as well as her appearance in one of his Mr. Big videos. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

I always saw the below as a personal sequence: Chante's Got A Man (love with Kadeem) Bitter (divorce from Kadeen) Love's Still Alright (moving on) And of course after that she met Kenny. Too bad the music fell off. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Another song I dug off of Exposed was Man. It always reminded me of Janet a bit and maybe a tiny taste of what it would be like if Janet ever did that Brazilian album she used to talk about. Anyway, love the breezy tropical feel of the music and breathy vocals.

Yeah this thread is making me nostalgic too. I'm gonna listen to some of her music later too. I never did get her 2008 album, Love the Woman. Maybe I'll pick that up now. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

I remembered that and following "Bitter", "Contagious" came out around the same time afterwards when "Mr. Biggs" confronted Chante for cheating on him with R. Kelly lol As for Chante being a major artist, well you can say for '90s R&B, she was definitely major but I think she was and is sorely underrated even in R&B circles. Of all the songs she put out, only "Love's Taken Over" gets major airplay to this day and that song's 18 years old but it's still timeless.
