Anybody besides me like the band, SQUEEZE? They remind me of XTC, actually. Great songwriting... Fear is the mind-killer.

Hey RD! Ever listen to XTC?
I was introduced to Squeeze on MTV back in the 80's with a song called "Hourglass." Great song...since then I've picked them up here and there and generally am very pleased! Fear is the mind-killer.

Unfortunately Ive only gotten into some of their singles like Dear God and some from Oranges and Lemons but I give much respect to Andy Partridge for his writing. Black Francis reminds me a lot of Andy parteridge ina lot of ways. "Climb in my fur."

RDHull: see my post in Prince: Music and More in your "book on Prince" topic for another XTC reference.
I like Squeeze's music very much and have even seen them live a few times. I also LOVE XTC, but Squeeze don't really remind me of them at all. -SWANG'sthegrandmotherofbritpop

squeeze definitely had a great run of albums from 1979 through about 1983. the first time i saw them was in 1981. they played with elvis costello on "the english mugs tour" in support of their 1981 album east side story. at that time, writers were calling chris difford and glenn tilbrook the next lennon and mccartney. i did exactly buy that, but they were really great pop song writers.
uk squeeze, cool for cats, argybargy, east side story, and sweets from a stranger were all very solid albums. tempted was their big hit which i really didn't care for. i thought that there were way better songs, but isn't that always the case. :I: jammed with Jools Holland back in 1996 when he attended the Paradise Bar Jazz Jam sessions when :I: joined the live circuit.
:I: met Glenn Tilbrook about 5 years l8r as we were both touring at The Hope Festival near Brighton, UK. We did a campfire set where he was playing guitar with a band called "The Cosmic Sausages" who have incidentally covered "Purple Rain" on their new album (see Ian for an archived article!!!) but :I: remember it being around 5-6am in the morning and we're all singing and playing "Hit The Road Jack"!!! Glenn and Jools respectively, R very level-headed yet, professional guys and have done really well 4 themselves. :I: remember hearing "Hourglass" when :I: was 8 and thinking what a great track that was and thinking "That's that man from the Tube". Never thought :I:'d play with ANY of those guys near 10 years l8r!!! I absolutely LOVE this band! Their 1981 song "Tempted" is one of my all-time favorite songs.

YES. Great stuff. But I don't own any of their ablums. I just heard them back in the day when real music was played on the radio.
A friend of mine suggested I check out Drums and Wires by XTC.

Squeeze was one of the best bands of the 80's. Sounds as good now as it did then.
