Right after. KISS Alice Cooper Judas Priest Deep Purple Rush Motorhead Thin Lizzy Iron Maiden NY Dolls Bad Brains Joe Tex Johnnie Taylor Lou Rawls Barry White The Miracles Chicago yeah right, janet's career>>>>>those other people I see your point, why would those acts be inducted to the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame??? BTW, Kiss sold just as many albums if not more than Janet. All those other bands are probably more influential, too. I'm not saying that Janet shouldn't be in, because she should. I'm saying that the Hall of Fame has overlooked these artists for too long. JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

Isn't there contact info on the R&R Hall of Fame site
Also, just selling a lot of records isn't the main criteria to get. They also look at influence and breaking new ground. I don't think Janet broke new artistic ground. She's an entertainer, not an artist "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

She's an entertainer, not an artist Your opinion, but I beg to differ. Janet has done more for pop music than "sell a lot of records." She helped to revolutionize music videos for the younger dance divas (hell, she started that particular trend. "Control" paved the way for Vanessa Williams' "The Right Stuff," "Paula Abdul's "Forever Your Girl," Karyn White, etc), and her earlier albums were thematic and very artisitc. Also, before her you rarely saw artists with interludes on their albums. Besides half the people in the RNRHOF are, as you say, "entertainers." It's all politics. There is an email address on the web site, but I think they say it's not for the people who actually vote. [Edited 3/26/10 8:59am] "Get up off that grey line"

She's an entertainer, not an artist Janet did break new artistic ground. She's one of the most influential artist in the Pop and R&B genre! Janet also has many critically acclaimed albums. So she's an artist (I don't see how anyone would say she's not one). Being an entertainer comes second. Control is even in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the 200 Definitive Albums of All Time. So I'm positive she'll get in next year. Oh and she'll get in before Donna Summers.

She had a huge Stock/Aiken/Waterman hit with "This Time I Know It's For Real" in the latter part of the 80s. She also worked with the MJ dream-team of Quincy Jones and Rod Temperton in the early 80s. In many ways,Donna Summer paved the way for the "dance music divas" that came after her....Madonna,Janet,Jody,etc.She was the QUEEN of dance music. Many of Donna's songs and albums truly broke new ground. Her 1977 hit "I Feel Love" basically started the whole techno movement! Her 'Bad Girls' album combined rock elements with disco beats. She was successfully doing electropop long before Madonna even came on the scene. In the 80s,her 'The Wanderer' album was critically acclaimed and her 1982 single "State Of Independence" inspired 'We Are The World' and all those other all-star charity singles. She deserves to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.

She's an entertainer, not an artist janet create her own lane and she is still a major influence on young artists today. what do you mean she's not an artists? nobody can dictate what art is to the next person.if you dont think janet broke new ground you must wasnt around pre-control.

If you know anything about popular music and R&B then you should know that Janet played a big role in the evolution of both genres for 3 DECADES and even today she's still influencing artists/performers. Her impact is astonishing really. She was just 19 years old when it all started. Some could say she was influential at 16 with the mushroom hairdo and shoulder bopping. Also Janet has broke artistic ground: I could write a 10 page paper on her influence. Seriously. [Edited 3/26/10 19:31pm]

Yeah, scriptgirl is truly trippin'. Anyhoo, another coinkidink between Janet and Donna is that the late Tony Viramontes photographed their mid-80s albums. Notice the similar artwork.

Ew at that cover! she's trying to be Janet How can you try to "be" someone else? Was she covering Janet songs? Did she do her own Rhythm Nation? Was she wearing a key earring? As noted, the same photographer, Tony Viramontes, photographed both of them. That lends more to the photographer's ideas, not the artist. Plus, it WAS the 80's when big hair and big shoulder pads were still in vogue.

Another Janet fact: The famous "LatelyBass" preset on the Yamaha TX81Z synthesizer (used extensively on house and techno songs of the late '80s and '90s) was based on the bass tone of "What Have You Done for Me Lately, and subsequently named after it as well.
She belongs in the Hall. "Get up off that grey line"
