Another reason I will never see a Tyler film, he doesn't hire union crews. Not a supporter of working wages, not a friend of mine.

BTW did ya'll know that Tasha Smith used to teach acting? hmmm If thats true, then she was BADLY directed so far lol I love her though, she reminds me of Khandi Alexander, another actress who was cast as the "angry black female" untill her breakthrough in TV,,,I could see the same thing happening to Tasha. TV has been kind to black actresses.

speaking of typecasting in the vein of angry black female. this chick has played "type" one too many times but I like her.

She acted her ass off in Cover nod see, thats what happens when folks get directed WELL.

Something tells me that Tasha Smith can act the HELL out of a manic depressive character.

She was a BEAST in that movie it's a shame it wasn't widely promoted.

yes, she is still alive.

i'm torn, cause this is such a powerful piece that needs an update and could spark needed national dialogue about black women, self-esteem, self perception etc. (i felt that Chris Rock's Good Hair, avoided DEPTH on purpose; sadly) but again IT IS Tyler Perry. Hopefully the actors will rise above his poor directing and dig deep for what this film COULD be

The chick? Kasi Lemmons is the most revered African American director (Lee Daniels be damned). She has directed, in addition to Eve's Bayou, Talk To Me and Caveman's Valentine.

I've been a fan of Ms.Lemmons for the longest nod but sadly she get the Julie Dash treatment. Enthusiasm over one movie that did great in film festivals and no work after it.

Kasi, Julie and that woman who directed Watermelon Woman went through the SAME exact episode.

Meh! shrug

After Eve's Bayou, I'm intrested MORE on the stuff she writes herself as opposed to bios or stuff from other writers nod I think she's a clever storyteller, I need to see more emphasis on that.

I also wish she releases the short films she did prior to Eve's Bayou, the short rough version of Eve's Bayou starring Vondie Curtis Hall as the lead is just not enough drool

Kasi Lemmons is EXACTLY who i thought about when i found out this film was being made. Tyler should learn from Precious, have a HAND in it but leave the directing to others. Kasi would SO KILL this!!! seems like cats have forgotten about her
