After India.Arie Tweeted these messages about the lack of social responsibility artists (like Beyonce and Lady GaGa) are taking in their music and videos these days, folks started attacking her. But she’s not taking the internet thuggery lightly. Here’s her Twitter response to the stans and vicious attackers: I woke up this morning to the news that my Great Grandmother who was 99 years old, made her transition. She was a courageous and Noble very intelligent Bold spoken women. I was going to write this ANYway, but now, I have added incentive. Life’s to precious to live it for anybody else. So let’s clarify one good time, for myself, for my fans and friends, and anyone attempting to disrespect me, twist my words or intimidate me. To be clear, I made the mistake of thinking that I could have a conversation about current events with a mass group of people, of course that NEVER works, because obviously there are too many people who think too many ways to keep it to a simple debate and sharing of ideas. BUT I speak to mass groups of people through my music, I write songs of social commentary, so, I continue to speak my heart and mind. I never intend to disrespect any one if it ever comes across that way, it’s a misperception of who I am and intend to be. Sadly, not surprising that some kids will be THAT disrespectful…LOL! I have to laugh to keep from crying. It scares me for our kids. I know were better than that. No one can make you be a kinder person, but why not be kinder for yourself? Being Crude and vulgar is such a waste of time and mind. I see all of that type of talk as childish games. If you really want to communicate with me be eloquent and respectful. I enjoy debate and understanding other points of view. Anything other than that is just bad childish jokes, I haven blocked you yet because I find it astonishing and curious… I’m scared for our youth, we gotta be better than that. And to GROWN people saying little slick stuff… This internet anonymity syndrome, where people say mean things ONLY because they know they won’t have to be held responsible for it … Sad sign of the times man. Go head gurl!!! 
I'd hate to see what kind of tweets she's been getting. Must have been hard for her to offer that type of response. Oh well.....her and gaga will probably end up doing a duet.
People can be nasty, especially when they don't have debate skills so I'm glad she responded. However, when will people realize that woman and women are not to be used interchangeably? I see this constantly. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off | |

How is she not a musician? She: 1. Plays piano adequately 2. Is a techmically good and flexible vocalist 3. Composes and produces her own music HOW is she not a musicican? I think YOU my friend r the one that is destracted by something. Just because she's wearing crazy clothes and wigs does not take away from her musicality. India "I'm Not My Hair" Arie needs to go after every video artist if she really believes this, and not just pick on the most popular one to get some (much needed) attention. Horseshit. Most people could not pick out a Gaga tune on the radio from the rest of what's playing, and that's the truth. Well, if u were actually tryna to come up with a conclusion before prematurely judging an artist, you'd know why. 
Its because after she came out with her sound in the summer of '08, with an up and coming producer called "Red One" all sorts of artsist have grabbed him to get the Gaga sound that is so popular on radio now. They r using HER producer! That's why they dound like her! When other ppl use Jam & Lewis, why do they end up soundin like Janet? Its not rocket science. | |

Why does everyone that hates her immediately and by default go to "She's all image" as if those of us who enjoy her don't have ears (or taste) or walk around with some sort of video helmet contraption when we listen to her music. Image is icing on the cake for me. It's the fun bonus. There's no denying image is a big part of her thing (she's open about that) but it's ridiculous to imply that no one could possibly like her without that component.I don't watch Gaga (or any artist) nearly as much as I listen to her music. Yes, I said MUSIC. It's fine not to like her or her work. I'm sure there's a lot of bands you like that I think are crap. To CLARIFY ONE TIME! for all the Bloggers: I Dig Gaga, I'd venture to say I've spent more time in her company than most people who are commenting on this. She's a SWEET SWEET GIRL! She actually came to my rescue on a video shoot when I ran off in tears. I think she's a creative Genius and Driven beyond belief... I admire that. Now, for those Who hold a different opinion but are able to disagree in an intelligent manner thank you, There was some insight I didn't take into account that I really do find interesting, the piece about championing the LGBT community .... i Dig that. everyone needs a hero. Do I have to AGREE with everything she does to love her?
And about Beyonce', I'm a fan, I think SHE'S GENIUS, and we have a cool relationship, she's sweet to me every time I see her. I admire and respect her artistry, and LOVE her Voice and that's a MASSIVE complement in my world. The fanaticism over Lady Gaga on this board is almost laughable. This is what Living Colour was talking about in the song "Cult Of Personality".
Now I've stated before that I'm not the biggest India Arie fan because her music bores me. I was also one of the first people to post about Lady Gaga and post up her video for "Just Dance" before she became the huge sensation that she is now. I remember having only a few responses from that thread from the same people. Suffice to say, I liked Lady Gaga's vibe when she dropped her first single. That being said: YOU MUTHA F*CKAS are CRAZY. All homegirl said was that while she thinks Gaga is talented, the material she is pushing forth is not in the same class as what she's capable of doing. You know what? She's right. Just Dance is about her being f*cked up. Poker Face is a metaphoric look at a man and a woman's relationship in comparison to a casino Bad Romance - obvious. Telephone - superficial man/woman B.S. Paparazzi - superficial paparazzi B.S. Its not like this chick is cranking out meaningful songs of substance. Its pop music. She's doing her thing but she's NOT using her talent to say anything meaningful. People are attacking India as if she just spat pure fire at Lady G. She basically, in a somewhat indirect way, said that Gaga is doing pop fluff when she's capable of more. Ya know what? She's right. It doesn't mean that Lady G SHOULD do anything differently; it just means that if she wanted to, she COULD. But the fact is, she ISN'T.
