Britney Spears - 'Telephone' (her demo of Gaga's song)

So the story goes that Gaga wrote 'Telephone' for Britney but Jive Records passed on the song after Britney did a demo of it.

Anyway her demo has leaked:

Bear in mind this is just a demo guys. It's obviously not gonna be as polished as Gaga's released version.

I wish Britney would have at least done the Beyonce part on Gaga's version. Beyonce ruins the song IMO.

Does autotune and severe voice manipulation count as polished because that makes up about 90% of her music? confuse

Am I the only one that kinda likes this? She should have did this with Gaga instead of Beyonce. She's not really meant for it.

And bear in mind that this is a demo.

No I kinda like it too. shrug I don't think it's as bad as folks are making it out to be. It's a demo. But I kinda like Beyonce's part.

I obviously like Lady GaGa's version better, but I could see how this would have been a hit for Britney if she decided to release this and polish it up a bit. Yes, there's a lot of Autotune and distortion, but that seems to work okay for dance singles these days.

she sounds like shit, at least gaga can still sing with autotune, it's perfect for gaga, but beyonce sounded like a mess in it too, her part was just so stupid

it all kinda sounds the same to me. This could have been 3, for the production values.

For all those saying Britney's version is shit, for one it's likely just a demo and would be polished up a lot more, not to mention the fact that it isn't all that great of a song, is it?

The story of Telephone

Lady GaGa wrote the song for Britney and it was to be included as a bonus track on Britney’s “Circus” album, but since there was already a record on the album about phones (Phonography), the label chose not to use it. GaGa kept the record for her album The Fame Monster, but still wanted Britney’s vocals to remain on the track. GaGa asked Brit’s label if she [Britney] would be willing to do the video with GaGa [GaGa already planned on it being a single], but Britney's label said that they’ll allow her to do the video with GaGa under one condition, Britney gets to put Telephone on her Greatest Hits album (Telephone was supposed to replace the song “3″) GaGa denied the request and ended up getting Beyonce to do the part instead. Even though Britney didn’t get to release the track, she still received an amazing track from GaGa called “Quicksand” which is on the Circus album as a bonus track.

After listening to this over and over I upgrade my analysis.

Britney would blow this shit out of the water if it was a finished product.

If Britney and GaGa would have did the video together as they originally planned, they would have snatched all these female singers wigs

GaGa appeared on the remix to Beyonce's Video Phone and GaGa returned the favor and gave Bey a spot on Telephone. Had GaGa not did the remix for Video Phone, Bey wouldn't have been on Telephone. You scratch my back and I scratch yours.

I know but what's in it for Beyonce really if she already has a phone song, just like Britney already had a phone song and turned Gaga down?

Bey wanted GaGa on Video Phone in hopes that GaGa would make the video more cinematic, but in an interview GaGa said she didn't wanna be herself, she wanted to be like Beyonce in the video.

For the bold part: Are you saying Britney turned GaGa down? If so, it's not that Britney turned GaGa down, Brit's label wanted to be greedy and try and keep the Brit/GaGa collab for Britney's album. Allowing Brit to use the track would have allowed them to do the video for it. Britney is pretty much a pop 'legend' and GaGa is working her way up, so to see them both in the same video would have been epic for fans.
