Michael Jackson and Wesley Snipes held hands during the filming of "Bad"

One of his early big breaks was filmed down the street from here—the short film Martin Scorsese was making for Michael Jackson’s “Bad.” Snipes had loved Jackson as a child. Now they were acting together. Snipes was playing a gang leader. Jackson seemed a little intimidated at first. “I think Michael was a little scared being in Harlem. I think he hadn’t been there since he was at the Apollo.”
How did he show it?
“Well, we held hands.” Snipes laughs. “We were holding hands walking down the street. I was like, ‘Hang in there, Michael. Don’t worry about it, brother—I got you.’ I went from being the actor in the scene with him to bodyguarding him. The people were calling out his name—some favorably, some not so favorably. Some were happy that Michael was in the hood; some were like, ‘Yo, Mike, get the fuck out of the hood. We’re not feeling you, man. Fucking Michael Jackson.’ Yelling it across the street. And he’s hearing this. They felt detached from Michael. They felt as though Michael had moved from the black community. And he turned to me, and he says, ‘Are you scared?’ I was like, ‘What? Scared of what?’ ‘You know, the people and everything. Aren’t you scared of them?’ I was like, ‘Nah, Mike. I grew up here. This is all good. Are you scared?’ He was like, ‘Yeah, a little.’”

Wesley Snipes always seemed so sincere about how much he appreciates the kickstart being in that video gave it, and IMO, Wesley's character took a story that could have been borderline Fresh Prince-ish, into a fascinating drama. His bold character in the short-film was a great contrast to Michael's soft-spoken character. It seems like this may have been true in real life as-well. Thanks for posting ViintageJunkiie. (

I agree. Snipes is one of the few people that never tried to gain fame off Michael. Michael always seemed so close to the people he's filmed with (Wesley, Eddie, Chris Tucker) Such an amazing person.

Eeek. I just got kinda choked up just now. I still can't believe he's gone

I think as fans, and fans who balanced minded fans, we all understand Michael had issues and struggles throughout his life and we all know and understand that Michael did have a dependency on medication

BUT it's the context it's being talked about that annoys/ irritates me

I, for one, know Michael had a dependency BUT he wasn't an addict. This was a man who had gone through hell these past 20 years, with the allegations and such and dealing with various health issues, so it's no surprise that he was using medication to deal with those problems, including inflamed lungs, an enlarged prostate, and of course lupus. He wasn't a druggie, not a junkie. He was a man who was doing his best to deal with the issues that had been presented to him.

and with that said, those issues should NOT deflect what happened on June 25th and Murray's negligence and all around carelessness, which led to Michael dying

Even her, "Michael Jackson Tribute" show was whacky. I honestly think she is jealous that Michael was more famous than her, and that is why she always was trying to put him down. Maybe I'm stirring the drama-pot here, but I seriously think that. At every stop, she (tried when he was alive) tries, even now that he is gone to make him look shady.

Personally, I never liked Oprah, and think she is way over-rated. David Letterman said she was an "American Sweetheart" or some shit like that. I remember thinking.... lol Riiiiight.

Anyway, I went off topic. lol

Love you Timmy! biggrin

I don't know what pisses me off more, as a MJ fan.

1) People like Oprah who don't ever give Michael Jackson props for all the good he did in the world, and even when they speak of his talent/art, they try to jade it by bringing up stuff that Michael was never convicted for, and shouldn't have even been charged for.

2) People like Martin Bashir who really brewed the pot while Michael was alive, for the sake of ratings and for the sake of their own career, and then who when he passes away, tries to make it like it is all water under the bridge.
I mean seriously..watch this video from the evening of June 25th.

(What an ass! he more or less admits he was wrong about his "suspicions," but he couldn't say it that gracefully on his stupid documentary. Instead, he had to make Michael look horrible. It was all in the editing. I could have made 10 fantastic documentaries with that footage, and access into Michael's world, but he choose to just spin it badly.)

3) Janet
I'm stick and tired of her calling Michael a druggy, like that is all he was. I'm sorry but Michael went through more bullshit then any other celebrity I've seen from 2002 until basically the end of his life. Poked for every little thing he did. Almost went to jail for the most pathetic attempted shakedown attempt ever, ragged on by the public, tested almost nightly by Leno, and Letterman. I'm sure anyone so quick to judge him would eventually turn to some sort of drugs to help dull the pain. Michael wasn't just a "druggy" he went through a public lynching and it wasn't fair, so to write him off as a "druggy" and make it like, it was all his doing, when in fact, as a doctor, ethics are REALLY involved and the doctor is JUST AS RESPONSIBLE, IF NOT MORE then Michael. Can MJ write his own prescriptions for a lot of this stuff? Um no. And Michael didn't die from advil. He died from something a doctor got him.

I wish Janet would quit trying to trade on Michael's passing for air-time, and going back to number 1, I wish Oprah would quit prying into how Janet feels about MJ's passing. (How rude) and quit trying to make Michael look shady, like she always did, and continues to do, show some damn respect. The man was a legend, loved by many, especially african-americans, and she treats him like he was just some creepy guy down the street. He opened so many doors - it makes me sick how she just writes him off, and honestly, I wish she would have more balls and be like Martin, and at least admit, she (just like Martin) likely judged him wrong about: Neverland, his private life, his parenting, his skin, and everything else.

But then again, if she was more like Martin Bashir, I'd still dislike her for that reason also. wink

Is Oprah just a professional victim then? Is she like Nancy Grace who labels everyone guilty (taking Chris Brown out of the equation here) just because they've had some personal experience of being victimised?

They really are the worst kind, because surely if you've been done wrong by, falsely accusing someone of such a thing is worse on actual victims. Or does she just pick and choose according to who's media friendly. After all, sh supported Halle Berry.

She didn’t like MJ, and the nature of her questions she asked about him proved it, she was so jealous that he was more influential than her, No one gives fuck about her outside the borders of the U.S , she is a nobody in Europe, middle east , Africa, he had zero influence, the reaction to MJ’s death around the globe speaks volumes, she was so jealous of that, that it took her months to make an episode about him or to release a statement. lol

Yeah, now he does... but in the 90s whenever he was asked about working on the Bad video, he would always say that he did it to work with Martin Scorcese - not Michael. He never accredited Michael for giving him his first break, he always dismissed him.

She is one Jealous bitch.

She obviously thinks that she is the most influential black person ever, known around the globe (never), doing charities , she likes to promote herself everywhere as the greatest , most charitable person ever ( even on T.V on her shows disbelief ), yet her influence is zero outside the borders of the U.S ……she is just a talk show.

Oprah ‘s popularity in the U.S was/ is huge, very famous like MJ was in the 80’s , (Inside the U.S) , considered a god figure to some, its natural she gets jealous if there was someone had the same race but bigger and more iconic and more influential , not only in the U.S but around the globe, You have to look at the bigger picture.

Her hatred for MJ has no other than this explanation….if there is another one, please provide.
