Rick Rippin On Prince

Don't know who seen a BET show called (Holla) on last Saturday nite, where Rick "dirty dred wearing, crack smoking Drunk on stage, holding a woman against her will, burning her with a crack pipe" James was one of 4 guest.

Well towards the end of the show the host asked James about Prince stealing the ideas and getting credit first when James was singing about this or that & had Marry Jane Girls etc...B4 Prince did. Kinda stroking James shattered ego I think...But James never lost 4 words, and 4-ever trash talkin said a few things...

He starts sticking his tongue out and moving his hands then standing up doing a Prince dance & making a face 2 the crowd ala from Purple Rain...saying Prince is a talented musician then referring 2 Prince as a "she" then went back 2 "he" helped open the door in music... Rick trying 2 B funny...talking about him wearing boots, then caps it all off by saying Prince opened up 4 me on tour...Rick James & The Stone City Band never had 2 open up 4 anybody!

I'll just say checking out Rick James live at his peak shape performing...WOW, my brotha how much deeper of a hole are U trying 2 dig 4 yourself? Leave it alone Rick cause U know Prince is everything 2 music that U dreamed U were...

Oh try not 2 4-get that its "U" not Prince that was behind bars trying out 4 a cameo in OZ~

I saw Rick James on some lame show a while ago, and he looked terrible. Bloated and drugged was how he looked.
Nuff said about that.

Rick needs to shaddap about Prince (who he is OBVIOUSLY so pathetically jealous of..) and just go off and monitor his site's message board for responses to his advertisement for his next "special lady".

Loser.

The only thing I'll say about this and then I'll leave it alone is, even though Prince outlasted Slick Rick from a musically creative standpoint{Rick is an important artist in the funk vein of things}. He is the creator of that whole punk-funk thang. You can certainly hear his influence on groups like The Clash. Rick has a healthy amount of respect for Prince{he was probably just poking fun at him in a joking kind of way...that's all)

Just putting the proper prospective on things ya'll...THAT's ALL!!!(LOL)

A little Rick James trivia for ya...

***In 1982,Rick was planning to do a motion picure/musical based on his life story. It was titled 'Spice Of Life' but it never really got off the ground.

***In 1986,Rick wrote and produced the third Mary Jane Girls album and it was titled 'Conversation'.The only problem is,Rick was feuding with Motown at the time, and as a result, the album was never released.Rick left the label and the girls broke up,while the album remains in the vaults.

***In 1988,Rick signed with Warner Bros. and released the album 'Wonderful',featuring the Number One R&B hit "Loosey's Rap".He recorded a follow-up album called 'Kickin' in 1989,but for unknown reasons,it was never released and James was dropped from his contract.

***During the recording of the song "Fire and Desire" in 1981,Teena Marie was really sick, with a fever/cold! You can't tell from listening to the song though. She sounds great regardless.

***In the early 80s,Diana Ross (!!) considered letting Rick produce an album for her.

***Rick is currently finishing up his autobiography 'Confessions Of A SuperFreak'.He has promised that the book will be very honest, exposing many of his celebrity friends who used to get high with him (THAT should be interesting).

***In the early 80s,Rick was dating actress Linda Blair ("The Exorcist") and the song "Cold Blooded" (1983) was written about her.

***Most underrated Rick James song : "69 Times" (1982).I love this song!

***Best song that Rick wrote for another artist: "In My House" by The Mary Jane Girls (1985).

Rick is a big loser!!! He wears his envy and jealousy of Prince on his sleeve for the entire world to see. He's a has been and should just go away. Nobody cares what he has to say about anyone.

Ur, no. The Clash did the whole punk-funk thing waaay before Rick did. In fact, they were doing rap-rock crossover songs in 1980, when hip hop was still in its infancy. Check out "The Magnificent Seven" and "Lightning Strikes" on "Sandinista!". The Clash probably influened HIM.

DISAGREE...MAJORLY!!! Listen to Clash's songs like "Rock The Casbah"...then listen to Slick Rick's "Dance With Me", "69 Times" and "Ghetto Life" and you'll immediately hear some startling similiarities in rhythm arrangement and style.

There are 3 things in life you can count on: death, taxes, and Rick James cotinuing on with his lifetime grudge and jealous rhetoric of Prince. Although what's posted in the very first post above is tame by Rick's usual clown act, this has been going on for over 20 years now, and this fool hasn't grown up and gotten over it. No wonder he can't stay clean or out of trouble even after all of the health and legal problems he put himself through.

...so blood-thirsty...

...so hell-bent on kickin ass...

very well Put Man.while Rick got stuck on Prince&Whatnot&He does a Point for certain things He says because I always this in Rick's Defense:Prince,Lionel Richie&Michael Jackson Included Rick Sold alot of records without MTV&no Real Strong Cross-Over.so I can understand Him being Bitter too a Point. He went from being a Potential Cross-Over Act in One Day too being Considered "TOO BLACK" Overnight.so he makes Sense from that Perspective.I dig Rick alot as a Artist&I like His Honest takes on Certain Artists but I don't wanna Hear about Him&Prince relly anymore unless it's about Music.Rick did alot more than he is ever given credit for.peep out His 1972 Album with His band around that time "White Cane" it's tight stuff.Neil Young gives Rick much Props they were in the Band Crosby, stills,Nash,Young&James&cut some tracks at Motown back in 67-68 but Rick was at the time wanted by the Navy for going AWOL&Motown gave Him a Open door welcome back when he could&He returned back in 78&the rest as they say is History.

1)Rick Turned down working with Diana Ross instead he picked Teena Marie.2)He was suppose too Have His "MaryJane Records"debut in 85 but it didn't come too light.3)the album "Kickin" was turned down by Warner Brothers&Warners told Rick that they wanted Al.B.Sure too Produce it&Rick wasn't going for that.4)"Spice of Life" was due &Right ON magazine had a full Outline of it&everything.Rick mentioned this on the Special Tribute Show on Soul Train that Don Cornileious gave for Him.5)Rick was Very prolific:Producing&Writing on Teena Marie,Val Young,Stone City Band,Mary Jane Girls,Eddie Murphy,The Temtaptions,(Melvin Franklin&Rick are related as well)in addtion too His Stuff.Rick also did Studio stuff with the Funk Band Kleer&the Dazz Band gave Rick much props for Him allowing them too Open His Shows.

This isn't about giving Prince props. This has been habitual with Rick with many people who are having or had more success than him. He went on a tirade late last year in an interview about a few other people who were currently in the spotlight, someone told me he used to constantly rip PFunk for some reason back in the late 70s-early 80s. No, this is not about props, this is about Rick's own immature insecurities that he as a middle-aged guy hasn't grown out of. Since he can constantly put it out there for the world to see and hear, he'll be able to take the heat for it.

Oh hey by the way I got what Rick did etc...props are given when deserved. I loved alot of his music growing up...but hey U get NO positive props being a punk and acting a fool on a TV show dissing another brotha whos got U beat in everyway in music.

Rick needs 2 act like a man who is still very sorry 4 all his mindless acts. His VH1 behind the music did nothing 2 help his image. Let's also throw in that he needs 2 act like a man whos thankful 2 still B alive.

2 still B concerned after all these years & "more" negative then positive about Prince or anybody else who got what he don't is such a waste of whats left of his so called life. 4 Rick 2 talk about wanting 2 see black people make it (BigTime) then diss on Alicia Keys success in another interview just makes him look like a 4-ever crack head!

I'm the last person who needs a history update about what Rick brought 2 the table when he could still stand without falling...But whats done been done and U don't have 2 B half smart 2 know that the little weird guy in heels who once was his opening act back in the day has surpassed & kicks his ass in everyway shape and form when it comes 2 music...singing performing or otherwise...

I think some folks need a refresher on Rick James IMHO.I don't blame Him for dissing Alicia Keys anybody can see that&of course a Cat like Rick who came out in a Era where truly doing your thing&making a Name for yourself&whatnot mattered.Rick made His Mark.Rick has His 2-3 Must Have Albums&a Sold Catelog of Songs that He either did for Himself or Gave too others.Bro Man has nothing prove.I might not always agree with what He says but I like His Swagger.the problem nowadays is that Acts are too Jive&Be Tomming too say how they really feel about what is going on the Music Game.Rick don't Hold back.I agreed with Him on Alicia Keys,Kid Rock.BTW George Clinton ain't held no grudges on Him they both were on Fishbone's last Album Sharing a Vocal part on a Re-Make of SLY&The Family Stone's 'Everybody is a Star"& I saw the video with them hanging with each other.Prince has outlasted Him as a Artist but overall too Me give or take a few things they both cut from the same cloth.they both were ween on Mick Jagger type vibe.

UseaxyMf & Supernova, all I meant was that I expect Rick to do things like that and that doesn't surprise me. He's always been that way, he has a HUGE ego (as he always had) and by saying things like that it makes him feel like he's better, superior, you know, "slick rick", which I think is a little pathetic sometimes, but he's always been that way, you can't expect him to change over night, can you?
And as far as the props thing goes, all I meant was that after dissin' and making fun of Prince, he always manages to say something positive about him, which means he probably doesn't mean half the things he means, you know how it is when you talk trash about someone. I just don't take him seriously when he says those things, I never did, 'cause that the way he's always been.
Basicly when it comes to Rick, all I really care about is the music, not what drug he's doing or whatever, so I really don't follow that kind of stuff with him, I thought he was clean and off them, but I guess I wrong.
