There's a lot of ways to do whatever you want with those files. The FLAC front end is just as valid as any other noted here.

but it doesn't burn the files to cd, which is what the OP wants

nero will burn the files to cd without conversion. just drag and drop, and there is a legal and free version of the program, or a full version you can pay for legally

IT DOES (i must've said it a 100 times by now) !!!!! rolleyes

I thought you can't burn flac directly to CD? Files are too big right?

The progam that he mentioned will allow you to burn Flac files without conversion. No need to convert to wav. just Flac to CD. Converting flac to wav or MP3, defeats the purpose of a flac file, because conversion diminishes quality.

Not true. Flac and WAV are simply containers for the audio file. Flac is a lossless compressed file based on the Free Lossless Audio Codec. WAV is a Windows standard uncompressed audio file and will not lose any data when converted from Flac.

Mp3 conversion is lossy by design and it will lose variable amounts of data during conversion depending on the bitrate and quality settings.

If the OP wants to convert the files easily to WAV or mp3 (or a file to Flac for that matter), then DVDVideoSoft has a free program called FreeAudioConverter. It's easy to use, intuitive and lighter than using iTunes mp3 conversion for iPods.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

(don't convert to FLAC to mp3 ; that defeats the whole purpose of FLAC , being that is uncompressed audio (lossless)
mp3 is compressed audio and therefore inferior sound quality (lossy) )

CD quality files will show up as either WAV (PC) or Aiff (Mac) when ripping from a disc, so since Flac files are already smaller than WAVs, they aren't too big to burn using the above mentioned Burrrn program.

44100Hz/1411.2kbps stereo is CD standard.

you are. earnest was talking about something other than you were. earnest referred to the flac front end which can't burn files, only convert, whereas most other people were talking about programs to let you burn flac to cd audio without converting first

Well it did create a desktop icon which wouldn't run. But I opened it from programs and it seems to be working. That's strange. So I'm a try this and be back. Thanks Dew and others. cool

That may be the problem. It seems to that the developer stopped support at XP. There may be another similar program to it, or use the one I recommended.

Flac Frontend will allow you to listen to the Flac files on your computer. It's worth the free download.

I'll check that out. This is the part that I like:

The program has a few nice extras, including the ability to access the freeDB Internet Database for track listing information

Thanks.

I have issues with Burn. While it's good for basic audio CDs, I can't really figure out (even if it's possible) how to burn a VIDEO_TS folder. I use Roxio Toast Platinum for that, and it works like a gem. Burn has its place though. It's lightweight, and fast for simpler things. Both programs prove to be useful for different projects.

I ended up burning a flac audio CD with Toast, then ripping the CD to iTunes for mp3.

Now I got a pretty fly hard copy too cool

Man I thought I had the best sounding copies of those songs already, but that is amazing.

Yes. Like I said, I burnt BOC and DF(pimpsandwich) and was amazed at how this stuff sounded. I've truly been missing out. For sure. Now to track down some other cool things in flac. wink
