A judge has ordered DMX to spend six months in a Phoenix jail for violating probation and to undergo a mental health evaluation.

DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, admitted in court Tuesday (March 16) to a single violation of probation for failing a drug test last June. He was arrested March 9.


The 39-year-old rapper was released from jail in May after serving a 90-day sentence for felony convictions including cruelty to animals, theft and two drug counts.

Maricopa County Superior Court Commissioner Christine Mulleneaux says he could be released from jail earlier if he's accepted into a drug rehabilitation program.

County authorities have arrested Simmons five times, including an August 2007 raid on the rapper's north Phoenix home where they found 12 neglected dogs, three buried dogs, drugs and a cache of weapons.

He's been in need of a mental evaluation since his childhood.

I think he was abused as a child was in the foster system, if I recall. He's got issues and they do stem from his childhood. He's talked about it before.

But, yeah, he's been on medication for his mental issues for years. Problem is he goes off his meds and self-medicates. That's why I said this is just a formality. He's prolly been assessed MANY times since he was a child.

I remember a Televised interview of him saying he had a rough growing up and had been in the "system." He was married at the time and also said that he was not easy to live with and that his children and wife knew there were times when he needed to be "left alone." A dude who got neglected dogs, buried dogs, is on and off meds, and got childhood issues definitely needs to be left alone and under some psych care.


Dr. Drew ain the one though...fine and skilled as he is...he can't even handle them wackos on his show.
