sleepyq- you can keep saying that till the cows come home. The fact remains - America doesn't like when black sexuality is in full display. Just read up the stereotypes on black sexuality, who the poster boys are of it and such. It's not welcomed. I'm not the type to say everything is racist. I'm just calling it like I see it. Tell me why the media were bashing her and she wasn't allowed to go to the Grammys but for the commercials they had Britney butt ass naked with Swarovski crystals all over her body confused Seriously. People were waiting for that moment where she would get bad publicity. It happened the media milked it for what's it worth. I agree if she handled the situation differently it might've not been as bad but I still think she would still be blacklisted off radio and mistreated.

He didn't though. It was planned that she would show her boobie. Why on earth would you wear a pastie over your nip unless you were planning such a thing? People aren't stupid. JT figured this out and that's why his punk ass distanced himself from the situation. He realized that the so called good idea was a complete foul up.

Because Ms. Jackson said, it wasn't intentional, I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt. As I said that the begining of this thread, we don't get the benefit of the doubt . What was shameful to me was a lot of Black people kept their mouths shut or jumped on the damn band wagon. Why did she have on a pastie? I'm not sure but it's wasn't the the A-ha! moment for me. I saw her look shock and turn to JT with suprise afterwards too.

I'm don't think that "type of stunt" is in her mindset, she could've probably done it in a concert long time if that was the case. JT is a coward.

JT is a coward we agree on that but I do believe this was a stunt and not an accident; it backfired with poor JJ taking the heat. I'm sorry but women don't walk around with glittery metalic looking pasties on their nips unless it's part of a show/performance. He ripped the bra cuz that's what they rehearsed. Now I'm not saying she shouldn't have EVER done it. This the chick who has been on RS with her man cupping her bare breasts, she's worn rubber suits on stage and have grinded on her male fans, miss girl aint above pulling a stunt like this especially when you got younger competition doing the same or more explicit stuff in their shows. It's just sad that she and she alone had to deal with the fall out. JT got no blame whatsoever and that was just wrong.

the context of the conversation was something about why prince doesn't wear the kind of clothes he used to. the convo took a turn somewhere and women came into it and then boom he said something about "old skin" and keeping clothes on or some shit. I think I still have it but folk were telling me he was talkin' bout Janet and I couldn't believe it cuz ya know...princey aint no spring chicken and hasn't been for a while. I think whether Janet's infamous incident was intentional or unintentional is beside the point IMO.

There's so much emphasis on that when it should be on the hypocrisy of the American public and their "lets play the morality act when its convenient" attitude.

"But you don't understand, its a family hour" blahblah Right! rolleyes there's NO such thing anymore, children eyes and innocence are getting invaded EACH & EVERYDAY, I practically have to sit down and monitor the so-called family channels whenever my daughter is watching them, and its in the afternoon!

You wanna lynch Janet? By all means, but lets no be selective, lets clean all the filth that gets red flagged on the daily basis while you're at it.

Its all about the MONEY, pure & simple, anything to please sponsors in order to keep them from withdrawing their support,,,,,don't even HINT about morality because that wasn't your aim to begin with.

nod That's all that mattered to them: MONEY. And with that incident, people panicked. Can't lose any money with an act that "outraged" this "good ole country of ours". lol

Look- I understand wut ur sayin, i do...

But I'm just pointin out that there r many reasons why things went down the way they did. Its not so simple to say- "oh, its becasuse she was black..." I've pointed out that young, white females also suffered a backlash after they became what the media deemed "sexually explicit."

After the nip slip, Damiota JO was released. It sold 1 million sopies. With barely any radio support to boot.

I know u hate the Madonna comparisons, but- Music sold 3 million copies, just like All 4 U. Then American Life went and only sold 700k! That's LESS than Damita Jo! Madonna did not have a nip slip. She was not humiliated by the media. She is not black. So how do u explain that? Without all these things u say were workin against Janet, Madonna's flop still sold less than Janet's. So how do u explain that? Is it really all about the nipple and the media?

20 YO was the real test. Many ppl flop sometime in their career. But after u flop, u either need to stay steady, or sell slightly more, or at leats make an acclaimed album. Instead. 20 YO sold less, and was not very well recieved by fans or critics. Most ppl consider it her worse album, and msot fans were unsatisfied with her image at the time. Damita Jo was Janet's first dissapintment, fine. By 20 YO, ppl could've moved on from it, like they moved on from Mariah's humuliation. But she just didn't realease the album for the job, is my point. She needed a monster album, and she didn't put one out.

Ur tryna say theres NO WAY Janet coulda bounced back, but from My POV, its very obvious she couldve. Michael is black and bounced back. Madonna is old and bounced back. Mariah is a female that was humiliated and she bounced back. Why not Janet, u say? Because she's black? I dont think so.

Anybody know whether Rosalind Cash ever got black balled? My step papi swore she got the shade cuz she wouldn't give it up to Charlten Heston. I was like eyepop spit GTFO! Man he got some stories about back in his day. Ok anybody that don't know this chick, she's the wifey in Let's Do It Again and worked with Moses in Omega Man which is a fantastic old movie btw - 70s I think. Or you may know her from Tales From the Hood and guest appearance on A Different World.

I know some folks here would love to discard the "race card" here because uh, white acresses supposedly get the same raw deal lol

But Rosalind Cash was TOO MUCH of a woman of substance to be typecasted, at the day & age when black women were either supposed to be the sidekick black girlfriend(OH wait, they still are), whores or blaxpoitation divas(even Pam Gerier was and still considered to be a B actress).

I don't know about that story, but anything is possible. I just love her love she and Diana Sands were too much for words,,,,its a shame that hollywood STILL couldn't get over itself and their reluctance to hire black women in GOOD leading roles.
