disbelief @ ya'll.

I loved Girl 6, I love its quirkiness,,,I wish more black filmmakers were as adventurous as Spike Lee & Wendell B. Harris.

I don't dislike a Spike Lee movie,,,,wait, yes I do, Miracle At St. Anna disbelief whats worse is, he attacked Clint Eastwood and all of those white filmmakers who discredited WWII's black soldiers in their films and instead of putting his money where his mouth is, he came up with that shit.

I'll be reading the book that it was based on, though.

To each it own. But I'll take Showgirls-bad over Girl 6-bad any day of the week. lol

As embarrassing as it is, i have to agree.

Drew didn't have a high-profile role again until... what was it... 2001 for the "Charlie's Angels" film? I think her hit films before then were independent releases that did very good in the box office. RDJ is Robert Downey, Jr. lol

As far as I remember, Drew Barrymore eased her way back in through small roles. First I remember seeing her as during her clean period was a cameo in Wayne's World 2 and then the tiny role in Batman Forever. It wasn't until the hype around Scream and the advertising campaign pretending she was the star that her adult career really took off.

RDJ is exceptionally talented. He'd proven that by his early to mid 20s. In fact he was proving his acting chops during the drug binges as he said he was high the entire time he filmed the old man scenes in Chaplin. He also has a father in the business and he made a LOT of shitty movies between the good ones (yes, I've seen them all). Personally I think he has the charisma and is just well liked now he's finally clean.

Maybe white these actors in Hollywood straightening themselves out and having successful comebacks is the equivalent of rappers going to jail for street cred.

Some people just need a break though. Look at how long it took Mickey Rourke.

Yeah, Drew worked her way back up. She was doing straight to video and TV movies for awhile until '98 I think

I'm not a fan of Ms. Jackson at all... I think she has as much talent as dry paint. I think she was scapegoat for those who had issues with Michael,
she was a Jackson, less kick her since we can't get him. What happened that night (Super Bowl) was mistake and much to do about nothing, plan and simple. What's even more horrible, very few people stood up for Ms. Jackson so say, I know her, that's not something she would do, and if she said this was an unfortunate accident than it was. No one came to her defense, shame.neutral

Yep, even black folks dissed her and that was supposed to be the community to "have her back". So she was a scapegoat for EVERYBODY. I won't forget when Chris Rock went on a rant against her (not to mention MJ and "greasy ass Jermaine").

I remember Chris said Nobody wanted to see her titty but would've rather see Britney Spears' titty

Maybe it's just him, because everybody I know was looking desperately for pictures of that titty and celebrated when we finally saw it

Muthafuckas ain't tryin' to see Britney Spears. We tryin' to see Janet! lol

I understand what you're saying but I disagree.

Janet's main market has always been America. It has NEVER been overseas leave that for her brother, who was the total opposite. The same can be said for Madonna and a few others. Her career hurt gratefully because of the Superbowl. Yes, she's an aging pop star and of course, ageism is a focus in America. But to say the Superbowl hurt her career a little is pure bullshit.
[Edited 3/17/10 20:22pm]

BINGO!!

I always get a cackle when folks say the superbowl didn't hurt Janet's career. Her career suffered big time and so did her image. Most of her "fans" didn't come to her defense and her stupid, wack-job family didn't either. Bitches. neutral

Her mother, Michael, and Jermaine (right on time as always lol ) came to her defense. Not to sure about LaToya....

Janet was more popular than Madonna and MJ in the US for many many years. Didn't u agree with that a couple weeks ago? She consistently ousold them both for over a decade.

Rythm Nation outsold Like A Prayer/Erotica combined
janet. outsold Bedtime Stories and Dangerous
The Velvert Rope outsold Evita and HIStory
All For U outsold Music and Invincible
Damita Jo outsold American Life

How were they more popualr than her? We're dealing with the Us, right? Lets not re-write the story to fit into what we're tryin to argue now. Janet was consistently more popular for over a decade. What's ur explanation...?

worldwide.

Now can we drop this shit yawn

No. We were NOT dealing with worldwide, and u know that damn well. rolleyes

Celebration sold double Number Ones IN THE US.
MJ sold more than double the amount of albums than Janet in '08 IN THE US.

We're talking domestically. Janet outsold them 2 for 14 years straight in the US, and u wanna say "oh, they were always bigget than her..." when the numbers clearly say that she was bigger than them for many many years...

... dont get it twisted i have love for Janet, but ur talkin straight jack shit, as tho other artists have not had their own obstacles to deal with... other ppl have bounced back stop makin excuses for ur girl... her ppl dealt with it wrong thats y her status is now lower than those 2 and probably cant be repaired that this point...

OK, now, we can drop it...bored2

SB didn't destroy her career. Its the bad decisions made after the fact that did her in.

Anybody can bounce back from anything, and its very true, believe me. Ppl can forgive ANYTHIN, u just have to give them what they want and say the right things.

... as for overseas... no she has never been on MJ/Madonna level, but how do u ratinalize Janet's inability to even reach silver status in most countries? Thats like selling 200k in the US. Do u know how low that is? SB has little to do with it... had she focused overseas, she wouldnt have flopped so badly at all. It was mismanagement.

That's what I always said. Due to the fact that every country in Europe was LAUGHING at the over-reaction in the USA to the Superbowl, it was Janet's prime opportunity to go over and re-invent herself to take advantage of the foreign markets. She didn't and spent about a year trying to weed her way back in with America. And I personally thought Damita Jo was a good album - much much better than All For You. It could have been a success. 20 Y.O is what really killed her career as I can't think of one redeeming thing about that one.

Exactly. Its so easy to blame it on the ole' Superbowl incident, but Janet's fans like to ignore the decisions that were made afterwards. Everything was what NOT to do.

Damita Jo was fine- it crossed a million units and was well-recieved by critics and fans. 20 YO was the problem. It was supposed to be her comeback album, and its her worst album ever. Could you imagine if Emacipation of Mimi has sounded like 20 YO? Mariah would've been FINISHED, and gone down the same path as Janet. Mariah's '08 album sold 3x Janet's, and that's all because of the crunch that went down with 20 YO. They fucked up with that album- the music and image. Instead of putting clothes back on, and trying to appear safer, she continued to give sex, pose topless, and sing about sex.... after all the complaining over her oversexed performance with a titte flash... how smart was that?

Drew Barrymore came from Hollywood royalty. She wasn't ever gonna fail and be black balled....at least not for very long.

Robert Downey Jr. is a helluva actor and he's married to a producer. His father was in the industry . Access granted.

Janet just plain fucked up. The only 40+ year old woman allowed to bare her breasts in Hollywood is Pam Anderson. Who don't know that?

Tom Sizemore is a helluva actor who has the ability to stay clean and sober but he doesn't cuz his ass can't find a job. All he needs is a break...before it's too late.

Todd Bridges does not have the attractiveness or skill of a Denzel, the comedic flare of Cedric or Mike Epps, nor the range and appeal of Will Smith. I don't think he's being black balled...his ass just don't got what it takes anymore.

I think not.[/quote]

See I thought the same thing. Todd does not have the acting chops of Robert Downey Jr. And Barrymore... well she sort of stepped in Meg Ryan's shoes as the comedic heroine. Todd was successful because he could carry his lines as a very young actor... not because he was knocking the ball out of the park.

Im tired of this "bitch ass" whining from Chris Brown, you used the media to get where you are and now you are crying because you are a victim of it. U know it what this list is missing, The Bee Gees, these mothefuckers got more PUBLICALLY blacklisted, radio stations in the late 70's advertised that they wouldnt play any BEE GEES music and this was the height of SNF and SHF for them, they also held a public burning in Chicago in Blew up their albums and this was an "event". SO chris, stop being a little bitch, deal with it, be the man u think you are.

I'm blanking on who RDJ is. But what kind of high-profile stuff was Drew in during her "struggles"? I mean, take a look at her filmography in those years. "Babes In Toyland" and "Poison Ivy" and "The Amy Fisher Story" aren't exactly high profile or respectable gigs. shrug

Drew didn't have a high-profile role again until... what was it... 2001 for the "Charlie's Angels" film? I think her hit films before then were independent releases that did very good in the box office. RDJ is Robert Downey, Jr. lol

Also, everyone is forgetting that Barrymore was/is independently wealthy from her high profile family. Barrymore was the executive producer of the Charlie Angels movie... it was her project, her dime... so of course if she chose to star in it... she had that choice. Bridges not only was addicted but he hit rock bottom, literally. He had no dayum money and no place to stay etc. Barrymore had plenty of loot and that helps. Look at Whitney... she hit rock bootom too, but she still had money and it helped her remain relevant in her circle until she was ready to come back. Bridges went so far down... he was back down to the level of having to work as a cashier at 7-11. That makes it hard for someone to take you serious as an actor. You are officially a "has been".

RDJ, is a different story. I really think it is because the man can truly act. He gets chances time and again because he is talented. People put up with him as long as he can make to the set in condition to act... because he can really do that well. He makes box office sing. I don't think Todd has those kinds of acting chops.
