Madonna tribute cd hits big in Europe

Europe has gone Absolutely Mad over Madonna's Tribute Album!

Made in France by Euro-fromage producers, Bambi (yes, Bambi) Mukendi and Stephane Durand, and enthusiastically fronted by Turkish lovely, Buse Unlu (pronounced Boos-eh), Mad'House's Absolutely Mad album is yet another perky example of the European market's almost psychotic fixation with Madonna cover versions of pop hits and novelty albums.

All three fixations collide gleefully on this, what has been billed, the ultimate Madonna tribute album. Playful though they may be, these new versions of Madonna classics are doing the business: pop success of the Mad'House single "Like A Prayer" (and follow-up "Holiday") makes this abundantly clear.

What was originally a bedroom-DJ mash-up between Madonna's "Like A Prayer" and the continental club hit, "You Know The Trouble" by Black Legend (which heavily sampled the underground classic "House of God" by House of God), was then legitimately reproduced, resung and re-released. Like a hit, hello, this dancefloor ditty has topped charts throughout the UK and European Union (#1 France, Germany, Holland, Belgium; #3 UK), with Mad'House ultimately appearing on Top of the Pops (BBC-America). Here in the U.S. "Like A Prayer" is making waves on pop radio (as opposed to just mixshow radio) it has gone #1 in Chicago (WKIE), Miami (WPYM), Orlando (WPYO) and, at #21 on the Billboard Dance Singles Sales Chart (as opposed to Club Play), actually selling!"

The album contains eight additional covers, among them the Ace of Base-ish "La Isla Bonita", an aggressively tweaked "Everybody," a twirling HiNRG "Borderline" and darkly clubby "Vogue."

Call it pop-light, call it club-simple, call that drag queen down the hall, call the Madonna fanclub presidents* (we did) -- call it what you will, but the Mad'House album is truly the product of true blue Madonna fans who wanted to give us all a little fun, so get out on the dancefloor and enjoy it for what it is, a great little tribute album!

*Don't call Madonna, she knows and approves.

I just wish I had come up with the idea...

And they are absolute fun on the dancefloor.

Even for non-kids.
