Yesterday was a musical smorgasbord if there ever was one I went to a block party in the Sunnyside subdivision here in Houston and heard a jazz band, and then my friend's funk band, Collective Hallucination. CH tore it up! There were many other bands but I had to leave.
I went to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, where I caught the most of Blake Shelton's set. Meh, not a big Shelton fan but that was where I went to change clothes, so it was he I heard. We left Reliant Stadium and went to the Mariachi Invitational at the Verizon Wireless Theater. Awesome! Five great mariachi bands, performing for $7,500. Plus, they had some Grammy-winning singers (don't ask me their names, but they were Norteno singers, I believe) join the mariachi bands. A block party in the 'hood; a country superstar in a 70,000 seat stadium, and five mariachi bands - that's about as diverse as I can get in one day! | |
