Ne-Yo in Paris

The eight-piece D-Boys band—live backup for aughties R&B sensation Ne-Yo—tore the roof off Le Zénith amphitheatre in Paris recently (the singer was backstage changing clothes) with a trio of hits that first rocked the world when Ne-Yo was in diapers: “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’,” “Beat It,” “Thriller.” The manic scene of nearly 7,000 French bodies dancing frantically to the late Michael Jackson was a rerun of eight months earlier; Erykah Badu’s DJ sparked the same reaction at Zénith spinning the same songs at her show back in July 2009. The difference? Unlike Badu, Ne-Yo has been consistently pegged as one of the heirs apparent to MJ’s crown. Ne-Yo spent all night trying to justify the hype.
