Sister Sledge/Chic - "Thinking Of You" (1979) ...
I was ridin' to this tune this morning, my favorite Sister Sledge song...IMO, one of Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers' best tracks -I love their Guitar/Bass interplay... ... [Edited 3/11/10 12:16pm] " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

If there had been a fourth single from this album, this song should have been it!

yeah, I can't believe this wasn't a single. The local radio stations in DC used to wear this out.... ... " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

It should've been a single-- In fact, I always thought 'Nard and Nile should have put it on a Chic album. ... [Edited 3/11/10 12:16pm] " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

It was also a UK hit for Paul Weller a few years ago but the less said about that the better! Funnily enough I was listening to the album yesterday, fantastic stuff!

Kathy Sledge!!!
we should do an appreciation thread on her alone! The girl had a great voice and mad skills. She did the vocals on "We Are Family" in one take! [Edited 3/11/10 19:30pm]

hey Paligap,I'm sure you've heard the story about the songs "I Want Your Love" and "He's The Greatest Dancer",right? it's kinda interesting.
Bernard and Niles were producing Sister Sledges' 'We Are Family' album and Chic's own 'C'est Chic' album at the same time.Originally, the song "I Want Your Love" appeared on Sister Sledges' album, while "He's The Greatest Dancer" appeared on Chic's album. In fact,"He's The Greatest Dancer" was picked as the first single from the Chic album. A few weeks later,Bernard and Niles decided to switch things around. They came up with an excellent new tune "Le Freak" and felt that they didn't need "He's The Greatest Dancer" anymore. They reclaimed "I Want Your Love" for their own album (even keeping Sister Sledge's background vocals on the track) and gave them "He's The Greatest Dancer" instead, which became the first single from their album.

This still gets a lot of airplay on UK Commercial Radio, and I've always loved it. Niles Rodgers guitar breakdown just goes on for ever but I still never want it to end. Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

Thanks, I thought I remember seeing that on the UK charts back in the day!! --I used to always read Billboard at the library back then, and they would list the international charts--I ws like, "No Joke?? half a decade later, this is a hit? Wow....." BTW, I've heard the Paul Weller version, and I agree--I really like Paul, but he should've left that alone, it's OK, just doesn't add anything to it... ...
