NEW MUSIC: TONI BRAXTON ft. MO’NIQUE - “CAUGHT (DON’T TAKE YOUR HAT OFF)”

Yep, you read that right. Toni Braxton has teamed up with Mo’Nique for a new R&B track entitled “Caught (Don’t Take Your Hat Off)”. Mo’nique isn’t singing though, she just added some spoken-word toward the end of the track.

Toni’s upcoming album, Pulse, is scheduled to be released on May 4th.

I agree. Her last album sounded better than most of the stuff I've heard from this project so far.

OH MY GAWD! NO! NO! NO! NO!

There was a sample of a new Toni song posted on here a few weeks ago, and it was vapid and soulless. By hearing this song, I'm really disappointed with whoever she's working with.

There's a trend that started in R&B well over a decade ago where there's minimal instrumentation, and a loud, over-processed, sparse, and uninteresting percussion and/or drum beat with some banal delivery of over-simplified and empty lyrics. Fools like K.C. and Jojo, DruHill, etc have perpetuated this lack of musicianship and musicality in the industry.

Now, whoever is producing Toni's album is doing the same shit, trying to be "fresh" or "new" or "different". If it ain't broke, don't fucking fix it. I see that some Producer D'jour Lucas Secon produced some of her new songs. Yes, I know who Lucas (with the lid off) is, I'm already not looking forward to her album if this guy is pissing all over it.

Let me just go listen to this and try to forget the new album:

Surprisingly for me it doesn't sound bad but
the song goes south the minute Mo'Nique opens
her mouth on the track. disbelief

I didn't even listen to the song at least a minute before I turned it off. Toni's mumbles are a turn-off.

That's very true. The problem with Toni and many R&B artists is that there aren't any solid songwriters/musicians anymore. Even though this album took her years to make, it certainly doesn't sound like a ton of effort! The songs aren't terrible, but like too much stuff today it just sort of there.

And it's so strange to call an album "Pulse" and for it to be the same typical slow ass stuff! Ok, she made one dance song but it's only interesting because it is not typical for her (it's certainly not very good). Why not make a full on interesting dance/upbeat album?

Yeah, she's not typical with a "dance" tune, opposed to her doing upbeat stuff. What's funny about that though, is that "Un-Break My Heart" had it's popularity, but it truly soared in popularity with the "Soul-Hex Anthem Vocal" remix (it went to #1 on a few dance charts around the world). She should just do a big dance type album. She'd do well at it.

That's the one I was talking about. Listening to "Get Loose". Not great, but kind of fun (and fitting for an album called "Pulse"). A bit off a rip off of "Don't Cha" (based on the lyrics in the second verse). The song that should have been a single that I've heard, frankly. That being said, probably won't make the album. Having all these leaked tracks along with THREE creates a lot of choas and confusion. I doubt they are expecting anything to stick.
