ORG MIXTAPE PROJECT: ZombieKitten – Weird Little Foreign Girl http://8tracks.com/zombie...reign-girl At the age of 7 I moved with my family (who are from Sweden) from Switzerland to a small country town in Australia. It was difficult. I clung onto this music, it was a link to my identity, my origins, my family. It's a purely sentimental selection of songs I loved from my parents very small music collection. Not cool or by any means fashionable, just home and comfort to me.
From my parents cassette "20 Golden Greats" http://rateyourmusic.com/...en_greats/ (a German compilation of songs that were hits in Europe during my early childhood) My mum said she heard the Spotnicks playing this song live from across a lake once when she and her girlfriends took a trip south to Germany. Norwegian Wood – Beatles (1965) We had the Rubber Soul album. The rainbow printed around the record's label used to mesmorise me as it went around and around and around. At the age of 5 I fancied Paul. Education Sentimentale – Maxime LeForestier (1971) My parents had this song on a CD, so it was a bit later that I heard this, when I was in my teens. My mum was learning french and her teacher introduced her to LeForestier. The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face – Roberta Flack (1972) This song was on the B-side of our Killing Me Soflty single. Radar Love – Golden Earring (1973) also from "20 Golden Greats" I used to think this song was soo COOOOOL Now I find out every rock cover band around did this one, and to think they were a Dutch band Porque Te Vas – Jeanette (1974) We had this on a 7" - my mum had been to see this film Cría cuervos (English: Raise Ravens) 1976 Spanish film directed by Carlos Saura. The film is an allegoric drama about an eight year old girl dealing with loss http://en.wikipedia.org/w...Da_Cuervos this was my FAVOURITE song as a kid. Honey Honey (Swedish Version) – ABBA (1974) We had the WaterLoo cassette, with the English version of this song on it. ABBA were like the most popular band in Australia ever, but we missed the mania by a couple of years, having arrived here in 1978. My friends had ABBA socks and wanted to know if I had met them I Wouldn't Want To Be Like You – The Alan Parsons Project (1977) We had the Best of Alan Parsons cassette and I played it over and over, I used to like to think this song reminded me of Prince Toccata – Sky (1980) Me and my sister and the 3 kids from next door used to race around the lounge room jumping on top of furniture to this one until we were flushed and sweaty Ella, elle l'a – France Gall (1987) This song was a homage to Ella Fitzgerald. My mum used to wear a white shirt with the collar popped, white pants and a chain for a belt. Le Fashion! She used to think she was Joan Armatrading - I think of this when I listen to this song. * I played this selection to my folks over the weekend, and they pointed out my glaring omission of Roger Whittaker's version of Moon Shadow. I have looked and looked and not been able to find that version anywhere, it must be too obscure

This is awesome Zombie! I'm listening to it right now, and I want to thank you for the brief insight into your psyche. Like you, I moved around alot when I was a child, and like you, I can identify certain times in my life by the music that accompanies those memories. ...this was great, thanks again for sharing! By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

I'd moved house 8 times by the time I was 8, TWICE to new countries with different languages, and changed schools 3 times by then

Quite an interesting mix here I must say.
Some of the songs there kind of fit if I were looking at old family photos from the 70s. Of course I wasn't born then but the images seem to fit the sounds, at least in my head. That song "Toccata" actually takes ME back, one of those songs that I must have heard when I was a little kid and I get a certain "dèja vu" feeling when I hear them many many years later. I would very much like to make my own mix-tape with those "dèja vu" songs when the next round arrives. I was surprised to know the last song on the list... but I only knew the Euro-dance version by Kate Ryan that was popular over here a year ago. I didn't like that one much but the original is a bit more enjoyable IMO... The Euro-dance version for comparison:

I felt the same way when listening to Dusty Springfield's "Something In Your Eyes" on her Ultimate Collection comp. All her cool 60s and 70s tracks and then at the end is this Whitney Houston-ish thing. The rest of your mix is ace though.
