Music from your High School years

Post 'em here. Songs that bring back memories, for good or bad, of your adolescence.

For those of you who are still youngins, tell us about music you heard when you were little.

biggrin

edit: I'm asking about music that has emotional resonance for you; music that brings up memories, for good or bad, of that time. I am not asking who your favourite band was or what was on the popular charts at the time.

The movie came out when I was in high school and it totally reflected the kids in my school. Still love the song, but I don't think I can watch the movie again.

edit: The movie being The Breakfast Club of course.

Beast of Burden -Rolling Stones Dancing with Artemis. love

High school was only 3 years ago for me. I'll be 21 in 14 days.

Basically a lot of the same people who are out now in terms of who was commercially successful during. Beyonce, Alicia, Britney, Usher, Mariah, Eminem, OutKast, Kelly Clarkson, Justin, and that whole crowd were the ones present on the charts. I liked them but my taste wasn't limited to who was commercially viable like a lot of teens. There was a bunch of people/songs I liked. I thought Prince's Musicology was incredible. I thought India Arie's Testimony Vol.1 never got the recognition it deserved. I don't know, it's hard for me to make a list of 4 or 5 songs. I enjoyed a lot of stuff.

I was in school from 1982-1986, the PRIME years for 80's music. You do the math on what was out at that time.

It started with a Thriller and ended with a Parade.

I'm not asking what was out at the time, I'm asking what music was important to YOU in your high school years. It does not have to have been something that charted during that time.

I'm not asking what you happened to listen to, I'm asking about particular songs that were important to you that bring up good or bad memories. That's a much different question.

I didn't ask what artists you listened to versus what everyone else listened to, I asked if there were specific songs you listened to at that age that hold emotional resonance for you.

Every thing. Everything I could absorb and listen to, I did. I saved me from a harsh reality of my parents divorce, and my mom's subsequent plethora of men in and out of the door, and her bedroom. I despise it. Music truly kept me from drinking, or trying drugs, or whatever. It's all I cared about.

fishslap That's not an answer.

I want to see a picture of Ernest in his twink era, and a handful of tunes mostly from 11th Grade.

It is an answer, just not the one you want.

Anything from 1982-1986 full defined my high school years. It was the prime time to be in school, and to graduate. Music changed in about 1987/1988, so my time in HS was still "the 80's" as we know it. The later 80's became the Rick Wake years with productions for Taylor Dayne, Cathy Triccoli, Sheena Easton, etc. That wasn't my "sound". Mine was everything from Duran Duran's "Planet Earth" to "Kiss" from Prince.
