Can More Than One Artist Have Great Success At A Time?

I've had this debate with others and want to see what the org have to say about it.

Yesterday morning here in Atlanta,GA V-103 morning show host Frank Ski and Wanda were debating about Usher and Trey Songz. (No, I'm not a fan of either artists but they're a perfect example of my question) The arguement was Usher shouldn't release his new record right now because Trey Songz is dominating radio and the charts. If you got a record full of wack songs than, yes, go back to the drawing board, step your game up. But to allow another artist to dictate your album release season is kind of cowardly to me. I don't remember this in the 80's growing up, maybe I was too young. We had multiple top selling artists out at the same time. What say you?

We've all heard this arguement before with other artists like Beyonce. "Because Beyonce is so hot and popular no other female artist can be successful." To quote Pres. Obama, "I fundamentally disagree" with this theory. But I'd like to hear you guys out.....

Yes, I was thinking about the eighties when more than one artist had great sucess. MJ, Prince and Madonna had the greatest sucess, though.

I thought about the 60s...

"Love Hurts.
Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

Harlepolis

If you're talking about black artists then the answer is no.

And I'm not talking about "flavor of the months", I'm talking about superstars.

Every decade has a VERY handful of black superstars. And none of them exceeded more than one hand.

Okay, whoever said Usher should be afraid of Trey Songz is on some good shit lol Trey is just a flavor of the month and is getting the little hype he's recieving simply because there's no competition. Trey is nothing. He will be remembered for trying it on R. Kelly's watch and the "sexy" guy that couldn't belt a note to save his life.

I agree with Harlepolis. There can't be more than one successful black artist or one in mainstream. That's why you usually may hear the Beyonce stains say that Ciara, and those other black female artists might as well do something while she's on that 6 month break lol

Why is that the case?

Thanks for your response. What do you mean by the "entertainment permanent remove the blinders"?

I'm not being facetious, I'm curious....

And what's taking sooo long...B was suppose to the this "break" for how long now? Maybe, she's more knowledgable than we think. Would she still be the "S*^t" if she took this long awaited break? She's flooding the airways for a reason. It's to keep her name in our mouths, but it's absence that make the heart grow fonder. Why did Aaliyah get on that DAMN plane?

Trust me, Beyonce isn't a fan of Lady Gaga for nothing. IMHO its all caluculated. B knows that in spite of her own success, Gaga has the biggest buzz in the game right now. Her having Gaga work with her on her "Video Phone" remix and now being featured in Gaga's video, is simply keeping her indirectly out there, even though she's done promoting her last record. Nobody's stupid.

Usher fell off but trust me Trey Songz will never have the career Usher has had. Trey just got BET that's not saying much.

I agree she just using her to remain relevant.

hmmm. usually it works the other way around. there's some hot thing out there and there's a rush to flood the market with duplicates.

not sure what planet these DJ's are living on if they think something similar being out there is a reason to NOT do something in the record industry.
"does my cock look fat in these jeans?"
