GOLDFRAPP is the new Lady Gaga UPDATE: Watch the official ROCKET video! Just got the email from Alison today:
Hello again everyone!
Belated New Year greetings, we thought we'd start 2010 by sharing some lovely news with you. We wanted you to be among the first to see the sleeve for Goldfrapp's brand new single Rocket (if you've not seen the album sleeve yet, you should be reading Alison's blog more often...) The new album Head First is released in March - and we're excited to confirm that the final tracklisting / sequence will be: 1. Rocket 2. Believer 3. Alive 4. Dreaming 5. Head First 6. Hunt 7. Shiny And Warm 8. I Wanna Life 9. Voicething And finally, if you're in the UK, be sure to listen in to Jo Whiley's Radio 1 show this coming Saturday, 23rd January between 1pm and 4pm to hear the exclusive first official radio play of Rocket! http://emr.emi.com/go.asp...F/xVDIUZ2F Lots more soon. The Deer x So I listened to the single "Rocket" online and I first thought ABBA! but there's also a lot of Laura Brannigan's "Gloria" in there too. Not a bad thing I think. =0P Seventh Tree is very different from Supernature. It sounded like a lost 70s folktronica experiment--my favorite album of 2008.

So exciting!
But not a big fan of Rocket, its like Journey mixed with Hall & Oates. I hoped it would be a much darker album. Kind of like their first. I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at the dirt.

I can hear Journey in the track with the cheesy synths, but not Hall & Oates. Felt Mountain is actually my least favorite Goldfrapp record. [Edited 1/22/10 14:21pm]

I love Goldfrapp, but I'm not 100% sure about this song. It's too retro's 80's for me, but maybe it will grow on me.
I sure hope they tour also. I've seen them live once and they're fantastic.

"Private Eyes" - I can hear a similarity there, true. And "Gloria" I mentioned in the first post.

Have you ever heard Deadsy's unreleased Commencement album from 1999 (different from the altered version that was released in 2002)? It totally has that sound from the videos you posted. And this is one of my favorite songs of all time: [Edited 1/22/10 15:05pm]

More commentary about the new single:
Goldfrapp Blast Off To The ’80s With New Single “Rocket”
By Robbie Daw at 8:06 AM on Fri Jan 22 2010 Goldfrapp’s new song “Rocket” has finally surfaced, and like the Atari-at-the-discotheque art for the single sleeve, the tune itself is full of tubular ’80s radness. Mute Records promised the duo’s new album Head First would be their “most powerful trip to date, a speedy rush of synth optimism, euphoria, fantasy and romance.” They failed to mention it would also sound like the Pointer Sisters! Head below the jump to hear “Rocket.” “Oh-oh-oh, I got a rocket, oh-oh-oh, you’re goin’ on it,” sings Alison Goldfrapp in the chorus to “Rocket.” Sexual innuendo and synthesizers—always the perfect pop combo! The band have yet to post any new info on “Rocket” on their blog, though Alison wrote the following (in all lower case) in December: “i was told by a duo who make websites that doing band websites are completely pointless these days. apparently no one visits them regularly because you can get so much info from so many other places? what do you reckon?” We reckon they need to take a spin on Alison’s rocket. The cover-art and song could have come off of the Xanadu soundtrack. [Edited 1/23/10 14:36pm]

The last two albums I thought couldn't be improved and then the new singles ("A&E" and "Rocket") spin off in completely different directions which totally intrigue me. Awesome.

I can not sit through some of their videos, and struggle through half their songs.
When they're good, they're good. But mostly, I just get trigger happy with the iPod click-wheel. . [Edited 1/24/10 15:46pm]
