I seem to recall hearing (around the time of his first one)...that he'd spent 10 years getting THAT one together. Funk Is It's Own Reward

That's because Thicke's debut was more complex and artistically daring. Then, he got the "mainstream"itch and sold out with each worst and worst album. That, coupled with the fact that he can't appears to craft a song with a strong melody, hook, and chorus (nor comprehending the artistry of songwriting) has allowed Robin to shoot for mainstream success versus true artsy. Such a shame cause he showed such potential. Man talk about "rebellious/objective minds think alike" 'cause I feel the same way. lol When Thicke came back with "Lost Without U", I thought Awww shit, I just know that either he or the label said/thought "Well, Robin we love your improvistation, spontenaity, and creativity, but unfortunatley for you it's not gonna make us ooops we mean you as much money like Justin Timberlake's music does. So if you could do us a small favor and 1.cut your hair like Justin, 2. Badly impersonate Michael Jackson like Justin, and oh yes make every other song about fuckin and start putting no rapping rappers on your tracks lol Feels like the pitch meeting Damon Wayans and Michael Rappaport had in Spike Lee's "Bamboozled". Something Else was his best one to me, next to his debut. [Edited 3/2/10 17:01pm] Check me out and add me on:

Sure, there are two or three gems but when the ballards started to overtake the quirkyness, I lost interest. I didn't even by his last outing. Space for sale...

He may be writing. He was behind the scenes for quite a while

'Something Else' is my favorite Robin Thicke aalbum.Everybody raves about 'Evolution' but I think 'Something Else' is much more consistent and has better uptempo tunes.Plus,it only features one guest artist who appears on only one song. I agree with you,his latest CD 'Sex Therapy' isn't very good.I can never seem to listen to it all the way through

This thread is crazy! Not because of the responses but because I was unpacking CDs Saturday and came across a compilation I made years ago with several Remy Shand songs on it. I had totally forgotten about him, so I downloaded the mp3s and added him to my iTunes. After a few listens, I was intrigued about what happened to him, so I googled him and this thread came up on the second page of results. Is that crazy or what?
Anyway, I agree with you guys that dude was talented, and it would be nice to seem him make a return. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

Well, if it took ten for the first, it might take ten for the second. It's well worth the wait. He is something very special to me. Unlike so so much of the music I've listened to over the years, he does not get old. It's like....I dunno....he'll always be fresh to me.

The only thing I remember from Robin Thicke at that time was this... After this BULLSHIT, Jimmy Iovine probably sat him down like he did the Black Eyed Peas (who were ACTUALLY DOPE b4 Carrot Top- oops I mean Fergie) and gave him "The Talk"!!!!! The rest is history.....
