I didn't shed a single tear for michael, I hate crying, doesn't mean i'm not hurt. I just, as a man, do not like to cry. I was actually in shock for a good while after he died and mostly angry at all the people who hurt him. You know, being Indian, I am paranoid moreso than black folks and found it very easy to believe that white people just love to treat everyone the way they treated Michael. Just my firm belief that it's ingrained deep in their culture to seek, find and torment people for any weakness, real or imagined. Just look what they're doing to Tiger right now for a sin which most people at his level of fame commit. White people are sick, sorry if that makes me sound like a racist to you guys. Makes me angry though. They never forgave Mike for being the biggest fucking thing to ever walk the earth and they had to make him pay. No amount of evidence will ever convince me otherwise. They meaning everyone from rock critics to loser journalists to large segments of the white population. They could hinder his life but they will never take away his accomplishments and they will never forgive him for being as great as he was, for outselling the Beatles, Elvis and everyone else. There's been plenty of time for reflection now. I've always felt the man was a genius who was just like any other genius, a little crazy but in the last few months I also feel guilty for neglecting his later work which I'm just now seeing as just as good and sometimes much better than his prime material. His songwriting was still there, production was still there, I mean how can you not love "Morphine" which feels to me like a personal response to the Industrial white boys who thought they had demons, it was Mike's way of saying "I can out dark you motherfuckers too!" and did. "Threatened" is a brilliant track which I stumbled upon in the "This Is It" movie, and learned that this potent funk was on his hardly listened to by anyone "Invincible" album. I could say so much more about what he means to me but it would be repeating what everyone else has said. Along with Prince and Elvis he was the person who made me want to be a musician in those crucial teen age years. Unlike Prince and Elvis, he was so much more the person I was too become, a wierd mixture of black, white (and Indian), feminine and masculine, the ultimate outsider. There was never any point in Mike's career where i did not identify with him, especially as an outcast. I always hoped and worried for him from afar as I know many of us did. When I heard he finally succumbed to all those demons, internal and external, I couldn't cry, all I could do was lay down on the floor for the rest of the day.

I've been posting here since 2007 or 2008 and yeah there was a time when MJ threads were everywhere on this site. I'd come here and half the threads on the first page would be about Michael. I'd even see threads about MJ in the Prince: Music & More section, so in a way I understood why Prince fans and others were pissed about all the MJ threads.
Being that MJ is my fave artist though I did not like all the constant bashing of MJ and his fans on here of course but I'd stay out of the drama most of the time . Poor Bboy, Dag, SeeingVoices, etc. though lol always having to argue with the haters in those threads. I couldn't do it though. Once in a while i'd jump in and defend him, but for the most part I stayed out of the drama 'cause I know how I get when it comes to MJ. I tend to get really riled up when people bad talk Michael (and even my entire family and friends watch their mouths around me when it comes to MJ. Seriously, they are all scared to bad talk Michael around me lol), so it was better I stayed out of those threads. I would have probably gotten banned or something by now. I'm glad I didn't take part in it for the most part. Most of my posts about MJ on this site consist of talking about his career and music. I've come to the conclusion that the trolls who don't want to add anything to a conversation are no longer worth conversing with.
I'm open to debate about music and art but those who are too blinded one way or the other aren't worth talking about or engaging with. Swa "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

Not too surprised lol sorry guys only have so much time to post. Doesn't mean he's not on my mind or in my heart. I keep up on the board, keep up on the news and am constantly listening and relistening to his music. In fact, I'm trying to do a cover of "I Want You Back" I tell you for something called "bubblegum pop" it is one of the toughest things to put together on piano I've ever tried. The bassline alone is a bitch. Mike was something, I don't think i could have been more devastastated if the sun fell out the sky, that's how much of a force of nature he was. I'll say something else and it may sound bizarre coming from a man but I feel like mike's my baby, i feel as protective of him as i would a child and i'm still hurting over what happened to his life. I think every one of us who didn't believe the vitiligo stories feel stupid now too. Imagine how that must have felt to be changing colors and then having people doubting you like that. Poor Mike. For all the mocking that the world did of him, I think there was always an undeniable respect which showed itself in the utter disbelief of his death, something that still seems impossible to understand. I know from experience that we tend to take people for granted and don't know how much love we have until they are gone when it's too late to do anything but feel guilty, I think that's how a lot of people felt after he passed.

Another thing, I'm relistening to the songs he wrote for other artists and even some of the "flop" Jackson's music from the victory album. Muscles, centipede, Heartbreak hotel has me rethinking my thoughts on him as a pop producer/songwriter. I always thought of Prince as the preeminent pop maker of the eighties but the more I study the demos, the singles of MJ and also the later stuff, i'm beginning to believe it was more or less equal and that MJ would put out more quality stuff per album than prince did. As far as the Victory album, it was one of the first albums I really loved as a teen and for the life of me couldn't understand why it was panned by everyone, maybe early MJ backlash. The album showed the whole family to be talented, the songs on there were very strong, Hurt, Wait, torture, body were all great tunes in my mind and as I go to youtube, I'm seeing other people changing their minds too.

I agree Someone in M&M that any boy band could perform Michael's "pop" songs with ease, and I think that's bullshit Listen to the work he did on Motown. People know ABC, The Love You Save, Rockin' Robin, and Ben, but what about Nobody, Can You Remember, Darling Dear (the James Jamerson bassline alone, DAMN!), Can't Get Ready For Losing You, One Day In Your Life, It's Great To Be Here, To Know, What Goes Around Comes Around, It's Too Late To Change The Time, All I Do Is Think Of You, Get It Together, Take Me Back, Body Language, or the stuff in the later years; Heartbreak Hotel, Time Waits For No One, Get On The Floor, That's What You Get For Being Polite, Blues Away, The Lady In My Life, Liberian Girl, Dirty Diana, Who Is It, Give In To Me, Stranger In Moscow, Little Susie, They Don't Care About Us, Morphine, Is It Scary....the list goes on and on. His catalog has been done a huge disservice because people think they know all of his songs, but with a 40 year career, there are SOOOO many hidden gems that even fans are just finding There was much more to Michael Jackson than Thriller, the moonwalk, the glove I was looking at BBC's Culture Show episode on Michael and it's like, with Michael's music, it was for everybody, but it still rooted in R&B. He never denied or distanced from who he was, so for people to try to label him a sell out or when you see things celebrating Black History Month or black artists in general and he's excluded, it's not fair Kenny Ortega said something that's stuck with me. He said with how much the world came down on Michael, he only responded with love "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I had to do my re-analysis of the Jackson 5's and MJ's early solo work, it was less bubblegum pop as it was just simply good music. They differ from the other teen groups. They had substance. Being in Motown did help in that matter.
