LOS ANGELES - The estate of Michael Jackson has landed the late King of Pop the biggest recording deal in history: a $200 million guaranteed contract with Sony Music Entertainment for 10 projects over seven years, according to a person familiar with the deal.

The record-breaking contract could be worth up to $250 million if certain conditions are met.

One of the albums will be of never-before-released Jackson recordings that will come out in November, the person said.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the official announcement is expected Tuesday.

Unreleased Michael Jackson recordings could earn $250 million

Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- Dozens of Michael Jackson songs never heard before by fans will be released in 10 new albums over the next seven years, starting in November, according to a source close to the transaction.

The albums are part of a deal with Jackson's estate that could bring in $250 million to the late pop star's trust, the source said Tuesday.

When Jackson died last summer, he left behind huge debts -- estimated at about $500 million -- but he also owned a valuable music catalogue and dozens of unreleased recordings.

Sony's Columbia Epic Records, Jackson's record label for three decades, will "create new projects for Michael Jackson featuring the never-before-released Jackson recordings," Sony said. "The first project featuring unreleased music is expected for release in November 2010."

The Sony contract was negotiated by John Branca and John McClain, the two men Jackson named in his will to run his estate.

"By all objective criteria, this agreement with Sony Music demonstrates the lasting power of Michael's music by exceeding all previous industry benchmarks," Branca said in a written statement released Tuesday.

Los Angeles County Judge Mitchell Beckloff, who is overseeing the probate of Jackson's estate, has approved the contract, according to the estate source, who asked not to be identified because he was not authorized to speak about details.

Fans can also look forward to re-releases of Jackson's solo albums. Epic already struck gold when it released the 25th-anniversary edition of "Thriller," which rose to the top of the sales charts in 2008.

"Nowhere did Michael set the bar higher than he did with 'Thriller,' which nearly three decades after its release by Epic remains by far the best-selling album in history worldwide with music that transcends generations," said McClain, a former music industry executive who now helps run the estate.

Sony released the album companion to the documentary "This Is It" last fall.

"Michael has always been a treasured member of the Sony Music family," said Columbia Epic chairman Rob Stringer. "We're dedicated to protecting this icon's legacy, and we're thrilled that we can continue to bring his music to the world for the foreseeable future."

Profits from Jackson's estate go into a trust that is shared by his mother and three children. Unchosen charities also will get 20 percent of the estate profits under Jackson's will.

Branca and McClain have not yet been given full powers as executors over the estate, since the judge is still overseeing the probate process.

Joe Jackson, the singer's father, is still trying to challenge Branca and McClain's appointment, but so far his legal efforts have been rejected by Beckloff.

dag - I don't know if this helps or not, but I was inside the courtroom for about 5 days towards the end of the trial, and Michael looked in fine form.

And for whatever it is worth, whenever he would walk into the courtroom, he would walk in, look around for fans he recognized. (There were always about 20 fans inside the court-room, and we knew each other, but more importantly, he knew who the fans were.) Once he found the fans, he would smile really big, and sincerely and nod. Needless to say, the fans smiled back and some would put their hands on their hearts, like they were saying the pledge.

Even in his darkest hour, he knew the fans loved him, and he wasn't the weak, frail person, the media made him out to be around that time. In person, he looked a lot more healthy then the photos show. I promise.

This interview is so fun, how Chris talks about wanting to meet MJ.
I'm sure MJ fans can relate to how Chris says he acted when meeting Michael.
And how excited he got.

It is also interesting how he mentions Gavin, and how Michael helped with
all of that. Frustrating and crappy how Gavin and his family were such
users but the interview is still worth a watch.

Thanks for the info. He´s so sweet. I know he was strong and all that. But it´s a shame that he even have to go through all this for that long.
LUCKY YOU, BTW! I´d give anything to see him.

we should write to them, i want the tours so bad!

I have seriously thought of this. If we got a petition set up,and sent thema huge list of people interested in the tours, maybe they would fnally pull there heads out,and realize that is where the money is,that is want the fans are really wanting. I just don't know where exactly to send it to. hmmm

I hate to sound pessimistic (or a party pooper lol) but damn, you think any of those petitions we gave to Phony, er, Sony Music, ever worked? lol

Musicslave

I was waiting on this and other lucrative deals that's bound to come. When you think about how Marilyn Monroe, Bob Marley, Elvis' estates have all branched out into various forms of merchandising it was inevitable that Mike's estate would go this route. Hell, this is probably just the beginning.

Sony on the other hand are going to try to milk this Michael Joseph Jackson cow until infinity.

Exactly. They're NOT gonna benefit for the well being of the fans at all. Michael wouldn't have like this either... I doubt Jimi or Elvis or Bob would've appreciate what was going on around them (ironically Marvin's estate has never gotten this ridiculous besides commercials using his songs and Motown issuing deluxe editions, they've kept it on the modest).

The list is fake. I'm just painting what the picture will look like... and trust me, it will look like that. giggle

After Freddy Mercury died, Queen has released no less than NINE major compilation sets. Only one studio album. Dont get ur hopes up

ALSO... living legends like Barbara Streisand and Elton John get counteless compilations released like Michael was doing. Please don't be mad at sony. Look it up. MJ did not want to go in the studio and record... so they did what they had to do. Michael's catalogue was very valuable, and he refused to release an album on time... so the only way they could make money was to release compilation sets and re-releases. They are in the business of makin money. They want to give the least and get the most. Its BUSINESS. They dont give 2 shits about the fans, or MJ's family or estate. Dont get it twisted. Its about makin $$$. Ur fan relationship w/ MJ is OVA. It ended when he died. Now its just the MJ machine- the MJ brand- ur not dealin with him anymore, theres no connection to MJ who y'all are loyal to and the brand that exists now. The sooner y'all accept it the better.
