Yes, they should retire and make room for the REAL vocal heavy-weights like Rhianna and Lady Ga-Ga. lol

Mariah's biggest flaws at the moment is the fact that she is still doing business with (below average) hip-hop producers. I'm not saying that Mariah should go back in doing adult contemporary r&b/pop. But Mariah can definitely make the switch to electronic dance-pop.

you know one of my wishes is for her was to move to the UK for a couple of months and make an entire album with Xenomania. one can dream yea? lol

with her though, many people don't realize she's a hip hop fanatic, and that the music she's doing now is what she's always wanted to do, and not just to go with the flow. what i wonder about though is, someone with such good knowledge of hip hop, why does she tend to collaborate with the weaker producers, and when she teams up with talented ones (e.g James Poyser) it'll be only for a track or two? i'm sure there are a ton of excellent hip hop producers whose sound is of a much better quality, and yet is still commercial enough for her liking.

that said, i still love mostly everything she puts out mr.green

I thought Neptunes and Kanye West worked great with her too.

They maybe churning out crap. But if they still want to make music - who are we to tell them to retire?

If they were male artists - this issue would not even be brought up. Jay Z is around the same age as Mariah and he is more popular and successful than ever.

same here. from what it seems though, she wasn't thrilled with the stuff she did with Neptunes, but she liked what she & Kanye came up with on Stay The Night, and wanted to put it out as a single even, but it seemed like Kanye himself wasn't too happy with that collaboration for some reason. my only guess is that he didn't appreciate her having so much input in the production process.

Aaaaah....thats some eye opening insight. Im not sure if she reads Mariah Daily however it shows her fans are saying the same things as us....she in "imma do what i want" mode and that's going to be the nail in the coffin.

I dont think neither need to retire i think VIBE magazine does though. Yes Whitney is a performing wreck but she thought she could do the whole full circle regain my fame shit, and sometimes artists dont realize that you arent who you were, and fans need to realize that too. Plain and simple if you go to say an Elton John show and expect to see the 25 year old Elton jumping pianos again, youre going to be very let down, what you will see is someone giving you music now, not trying to be someone he was, and thats when performers and audience are at their best.

I felt this way at MC's MIMI tour, i mean she looked Sexy as Hell (no kidding) light years better than anyone in the genre younger or older, but i also saw someone that cant accept the times, and that she isnt in her 20's anymore. Thats not to say she needs to change the "look" she needs to change the tone and direction, when you get to that age, you are fooling yourself by trying to be who you were, and MC is really stuck in this.

You are a true MC fan....lol

hammer I've reach a decision.

1. Whitney Houston, based on the numerous video evidences of her recent concert show performances, not to mention that I totally dislike Clive Davis for pulling you back in the spotlight when you knew you were NOT ready, I hereby declare her music career is OVER!

2. Mariah, based on the numerous video evidences of her recent concert show performances, I hereby declare her music career is still ongoing. My reason for this decision is because we know that Mariah's vocals are not damage by any recent drug problems. But also, Mariah's biggest flaws at the moment is the fact that she is still doing business with (below average) hip-hop producers. I'm not saying that Mariah should go back in doing adult contemporary r&b/pop. But Mariah can definitely make the switch to electronic dance-pop.

In order for Mariah to survive within the music industry's Beyonce/Lady Gaga era (which spawned Ke$ha of all people!), she will definite have to defeat these young artists with new musical sounds played on an uptempo. The ways of a downtempo of 95 BPM does NOT work anymore. And Mariah can tell Jermaine Dupri AND Dr. Dre I said so.

Case dismiss....for now.

We all know what contributed to Whitney's vocal decline. But I never hear anyone talk about Mariah's. Does anyone knows what happen to her voice. It's definitely not as clear and full as it used to be. Did she abuse anything and do a good job of hiding it or what? She's not as bad as good ole Nippy but there's an obvious decline in her basic ability to just sing solid notes now. Back in the day she was able to do whatever she wanted with ease.

I don't own any of Mariah's stuff but I really used to appeciate her voice. I do remember the "Glitter" soundtrack being dope and underrated probably because of the movie. (I don't remember the first single) maybe that killed any momentum. I remember her version of "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On" was on par with Cherrelle's. I know that's probably blasphemous to some but the girl killed it vocally.

And this is the reason why Mariah will continue to stumble.....She should try to get back to the Vision of Love sound and stop trying to act like she's 19...The question is, does she still have the voice to pull it off?

"Beyond your questionable penchant for dressing like a horny 17-year prom date in a state of arrested development and a much rumored battle with the bottle (Yo Nick, talk to wifey), the cold, sobering fact is that the soaring vox on 1990’s “Vision of Love” is now overpowered by female rap savior Nicki Minaj on “Up Out My Face.”"

Hey Murph, Is this the culprit. Alcohol? I was hoping that wasn't the case.
