So, if u turn up to school without ur homework done, you could just say, "I couldn't do it because I was too busy smoking crack." I wish I lived where ur at.

Nah...the drugs explain why Whitney's voice is shot and is still acting nutty onstage..Her problems go beyond music...And to me that's truly tragic...

Mariah on the other hand completely sold out to stay relevant...Beyond the fact that her voice is hit or miss and she dresses like a 17 year old, she seems to be more calculated with her actions...Which is why, she has no excuse....

Well... thats just it. Mimi's voice is hit or miss. Whitney's is just miss. Always.

Mimi is still doin what shes always done as a lyricist. U wanna talk about personal problems, but until theyre apparent and start affectin her work, I'll be hard pressed to care. Michael destroyed his face and literally became a white woman, and lost his sanity, but i didnt care as long as he was still puttin out good music and videos and goin on tour for his fans. It was when he came out with the POS album in 01, didnt even bother to tour and then was unable to redeem himself for the next 8 yrs, then i couldnt call myself a fan anymore. Mimi stumbled with the POS album Charmbracelet but came back with TEOM and the even better E=MC2. Memoirs is also a great album, despite what ppl wanna say. So why would I care that she likes to sip sip? Or that she cant fill up a theatre? She doesnt pay my bills, so i cant give 2 shits that shes not selling records or filling stadiums. The music is still on point, she continues to released PLENTY of it, and is goin out on the road and doin a good job for her fans. What should i be worried about?

And Whitney? One shit album 9 yrs ago and then comin back with her voiceless ass with another shit album, cant even get thru a show without taking 20 minute breaks to "catch her breath." And then to find out she still smokes.... she obviously doesnt give 2 shits so why should i?

I dont think neither need to retire i think VIBE magazine does though. Yes Whitney is a performing wreck but she thought she could do the whole full circle regain my fame shit, and sometimes artists dont realize that you arent who you were, and fans need to realize that too. Plain and simple if you go to say an Elton John show and expect to see the 25 year old Elton jumping pianos again, youre going to be very let down, what you will see is someone giving you music now, not trying to be someone he was, and thats when performers and audience are at their best.

I felt this way at MC's MIMI tour, i mean she looked Sexy as Hell (no kidding) light years better than anyone in the genre younger or older, but i also saw someone that cant accept the times, and that she isnt in her 20's anymore. Thats not to say she needs to change the "look" she needs to change the tone and direction, when you get to that age, you are fooling yourself by trying to be who you were, and MC is really stuck in this.

that last paragraph was spot on and honestly that's my only issue with Miss M whom I adore. She needs to give up the sex kitten act. Don't get me wrong, she's sexy as hell but coming on the stage in her lil bikini and having her girls hangin' out all the damn time is a bit much on a woman of any age. She's too talented for that. She needs to decide if she wants to reign like a Madonna or Courtney Love versus a Celine Dion or Barbara Streisand. With a voice like hers, she ought to think about that paper and forget about whether boys still jack off to her image.

Yeah i mean Mariah is smart enough to realize this, she can easily be Sexy in other ways, and trust me as a guy im not saying MC needs to cover up, she just needs to adjust the target audience she is aiming at. I mean Tina Turner wears short skirts and high heels at her age and MC could easily do the same, maybe she needs to take a page from Tina's way of doing things, instead of trying to sell to the same audience that thinks she is too "old"

Mariah Carey is performing in my area tonight lol Her tour seems to be doing okay. She just needs to stay away from those hip-hop producers and work with some REAL musicians for a change.Create a stunning masterpiece! Whack songs like "Touch My Body" and "Obsessed" are beneath her. She's too talented for crap like that.

As for Whitney...she's gotta sit down and figure out where to go next. She obviously won't be able to do alot of touring in the future. Her voice is damaged beyond repair. This may sound crazy, but maybe she should get a role on a daytime soap, while continuing to release new albums every few years.

Mimi is still makin great music, and will continue to do so for as long as she wants. E=MC2 was her best album to date, only released 2 years ago. She has plently of juice left in her. She has been consistently comin up with resh melodies and fun subject matter and her catalogue is near flawless save for Charmbracelet and Music Box. Yeah, her voice aint what it used to be, but she still sounds great in the studio and manages aight live.

Whitney... should go crawl into a hole and never come back. She's about as useful as LaToya Jackson right now.

Wut part of my statement rings false to u? E=MC2 is better than any studio album Mariah has released in her career. Her power ballad days are grossly overrated, and she only got better when she truned to hip-hop/R&B. Her commercial success is totally out of whack with the quality of her material. Music Box can't hold a candle to Glitter, or even Memoirs. She was better in the 00's than in the 90s. If that rings "false" to u i just cant help u there. shrug

That's my thinking, hey you do what you have to do. Hell, this has been her job/career for decades. Ms. Houston's knows she's lost the ability to sing, this must be painful... it's been painful to watch. As far as Ms. Carey I've never been a fan, stay/retire, I'm indifferent.

But seriously. Both ladies have lived in lalaland so long that their public appearances are sad affairs. It makes me long for the days when record company moguls kept their craze in check. Same with Prince, btw.

When have they ever though? lol

Back in the day, the streets were the equivalent to the discussions that goes around in these boards.

If you read about Dinah Washington, Billie Holiday and Bessie Smith for examples, they have done way more OUTLANDISH wall-to-wall stuff that make Nippy & Mimi appear like the brown & yellow versions of Mary Tyler Moore. And their antics couldn't be kept in check.

And I only mentioned 3 examples lol

I agree with you however that both dames need to face the music.

nod

Honey, them broads would make Nippy & Mimi look like Pentecostal church ladies. lol

Overall i would agree, i dont think E is her best but people some say its her worst which its far from, most say its her worst because it didnt sell like Mimi did, and most call mimi her best because it sold, which it isnt her best work, it was a big hit album, but that record wasnt her best. The thing with Mariah is she is alot like Duran Duran and the UK group Girls Aloud, they are strong singles artists, but their albums are about 70% good material, though GA has gotten stronger albumwise with time, and Duran Duran here and there have had stronger full albums, MC always lets me down with her "album tracks" its almost like she goes in and KNOWS what will be the single, records 3-4 "singles" that fit the mold of the radio of the day (which sucks) and then the rest of the record she doesnt get fully into. I feel its always been her artistic flaw, she has always been a "Hit maker" it really didnt matter how good or bad the albums were, but now it does since the "hit" days are really over.

It is a matter of opinion and I do respect that, also as you have shown you probably have all her albums.

I just thought the album was pretentious and contained lots of wannabe "We Belong Together pt. 8" ballads and the uptempo tunes seemed forced and unfelt. I was very upset with the outcome of that album, I missed the soul slow jams and the experimentation of TEOM and the heartfelt passion she put into songs like Fly Like A Bird, Mine Again and Circles...there was NONE of that in E=MC2 except for I Wish You Well, where i finally heard HER..the rest of the songs could have been sung by any ol dame.

The songs on E=MC2 are better than those on The Emancipation. I like mroe songs on E=MC2 than any Mimi album. I enjoy listening to E=MC2 more than any other Mariah album. I listen to E=MC2 more often than any other Mimi album. Therefore it is her best studio record, for me.

hammer I've reach a decision.

1. Whitney Houston, based on the numerous video evidences of her recent concert show performances, not to mention that I totally dislike Clive Davis for pulling you back in the spotlight when you knew you were NOT ready, I hereby declare her music career is OVER!

2. Mariah, based on the numerous video evidences of her recent concert show performances, I hereby declare her music career is still ongoing. My reason for this decision is because we know that Mariah's vocals are not damage by any recent drug problems. But also, Mariah's biggest flaws at the moment is the fact that she is still doing business with (below average) hip-hop producers. I'm not saying that Mariah should go back in doing adult contemporary r&b/pop. But Mariah can definitely make the switch to electronic dance-pop.

In order for Mariah to survive within the music industry's Beyonce/Lady Gaga era (which spawned Ke$ha of all people!), she will definite have to defeat these young artists with new musical sounds played on an uptempo. The ways of a downtempo of 95 BPM does NOT work anymore. And Mariah can tell Jermaine Dupri AND Dr. Dre I said so.

Case dismiss....for now.

you know one of my wishes is for her was to move to the UK for a couple of months and make an entire album with Xenomania. one can dream yea? lol

with her though, many people don't realize she's a hip hop fanatic, and that the music she's doing now is what she's always wanted to do, and not just to go with the flow. what i wonder about though is, someone with such good knowledge of hip hop, why does she tend to collaborate with the weaker producers, and when she teams up with talented ones (e.g James Poyser) it'll be only for a track or two? i'm sure there are a ton of excellent hip hop producers whose sound is of a much better quality, and yet is still commercial enough for her liking.

that said, i still love mostly everything she puts out mr.green
