Clapton deserves praise for his output with Cream, Blind Faith, and his 70's work alone, but he has been coasting since his Unplugged days.
I wonder when Rolling Stone or the other magazines take these greatest guitarist lists into account, whether they focus on who was the loudest rockers or had the most crazy guitar solos (Eddie Van Halen anyone), or whether they take into account whether someone can create a sonic masterpiece as well without having to crank it up to eleven. There are probably a ton of jazz and R&B guitarists who rank up with the greats, and I'm sure there are a huge number of blues guitarists besides the obvious (B.B. King, Bo Diddley, Stevie Ray Vaughan) who are seriously overlooked. And don;t forget the country music guitarists as well. I can think of a couple of guitarists who are underrated and not as well known or publicized for their chops (Ernie Isley, Mark Knopfler).

Terry Kath is someone that "died" that didnt get more famous for it, and have the LEGEND created, he honestly, is one of the best players ever.
I was gonna say Jimi too but i didnt wanna get jumped on. I want what you are smoking.....Because u r out of your mind...lol

I'm certain of it because the thread about Clapton's remark has been up here several times on the org.
I'm not racist, but I hate hearing the term "nigga pass" for a white artist that comes along that has soul. I never heard the term used with Hall & Oates, The Bee Gees, Gino Vanelli, David Bowie, Remy Shand, Teena Marie, or Lewis Taylor. I think "soul pass" is a better term. And for the record I like Eric Clapton.

Well, I have to agree with this. I just don't "get" the Hendrix thing at all. This is not an exit

Underrated. Rated. Overrated. Who cares? He makes good music, plays a mean guitar and is still around for good reason. Just enjoy the music...but stay away from the coke. While y'all are getting your knickers in a twist, I'ma listen away...
