Early Phyllis Hyman TV Clips

It's so rare to see any Phyllis footage from early in her career. I can't tell you how excited I am to see this stuff!

"Living Inside Your Love"

OMG I just recently started getting into her music. She was such a beautiful woman inside and out with amazing talent. It's a shame how she ended her life soon but she left us amazing music. You can actually hear the pain in her voice when she performed, she was so real.

I once read that she was considered for the role of Effie in Dreamgirls. I bet she would've did a great job, take nothing away from Jennifer Holiday who did a hell of a job, but I would've like to see what Phyllis could've done with 'And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going'.

She was also considered for a role in 'The Color Purple',the role that was eventually played by Margaret Avery.

How many of them were considered to be play 'Shug'?

So far, we know..

Tina Turner
Patti LaBelle
Chaka Khan
Phyllis Hyman
.

Are there more?

hmmm I can't think of any others.I really think that Tina could have had that role if she really wanted it.She was their first choice, according to Quincy Jones.

Tina said in her book that she already lived "the Color Purple" story and she didn't care to 'act' it in a movie.

I agree though, she would've murked the role to the core nod

Acoording to Quincy, she phrased it a little differently than that lol She said she didn't wanna do a "black movie".

I'm not gonna say anything about this. Quincy can't be trusted. lol That's all I'm gonna say. I'm gonna take Tina's words to the media before I take Q seriously. lol

Yes, I have the magazine. She ended up regretting it and received some backlash from the industry.

I remember that photograph. I didn't see it as a big deal at all, but then I don't view nudity as something to be ashamed of. shrug

I've never seen her nude pix,,,,,fact is, I've never known she made a spread untill I read her book.

Clive Davis was the one who really made such a big stink about it, she on the other hand took it in stride.

Thank you for posting "Living Inside Your Love" that is MY SHIT! Now if only some footage of her knocking off about 8:00 or 9:00 of "You Know How to Love Me" would surface...I've heard all about how ill that tour was.
