Forgotten R&B bands---remember these folks?

***Skyy---This band scored their biggest hit in 1981 with "Call Me",a sizzling funk jam with the memorable hook "Here's my number and a dime, call me anytime".Other hits include "Let's Celebrate" (1981) and "When You Touch Me" (1981).

***One Way---Y'all remember those early 80s jams by One Way..."Pop It" (1980),"Push" (1981),"Pull/Fancy Dancer"(1982) and of course, their biggest hit,"Cutie Pie"(1982).There were also a few great slow jams, like "Something In The Past"(1980) and "Lady You Are" (1984).

***Yarbrough & Peoples---In 1980,one of the hottest jams on the radio was "Don't Stop The Music".That was DA JAM!!!My favorite part of that song is the line "Just because it's 2 O'clock, don't mean that we have to stop". But it didn't stop there. This duo came back with equally impressive grooves like "Heartbeat"(1983),"Be A Winner" (1983),"Don't Waste Your Time"(1984) and "Guilty" (1986).

***Mtume---In the spring of '83,one of the sexiest R&B jams was "Juicy Fruit",with it's tasty midtempo groove getting everybody excited...lol...unfortunately,this band faded away after only a few more hits ("Would You Like To Fool Around"(1983),"You Me And He"(1984),"Breathless"(1986)).

Can you guys name any other forgotten R&B bands that deserve some recognition?

AshFord and Simpson Solid As a Rock. Peaches And Herb Was it Shake your Groove Thing? Billy Ocean Carribean Queen. Lipps Inc from Minneapolis FunkyTown. Where is Herb Albert Rise[Theme from Luke and Laura} I know he's Jazz and Chuck Mangione? I know he's Jazz also. How about Wild Cherry? Play That Funky Music...Brothers Johnson Strawberry Letter 22? I know Tevin Cambell did a remake.

Slave RULE!!!

:I: did a track which uses a reworking of One Way's "Let's Go Out Tonite" for my last album. (shameless plug! biggrin).

What happened to Cashflow? "Mine All Mine" was the jam.

and what aboot Midnight Star & Aurra? don't ppl recognise talent anymore?!

as 4 the go-go front, Redds & The Boyz, Chuck Brown & The Soul Searchers, The Almighty Trouble Funk... these guys were doing it!!!

If Lenny Henry brought back his Delbert Wilkins character 2 release "These R Crucial Times", I bet it would sell!

Mtume's Juicy Fruit was the jam! When I think back, this is was one of first records that stands out in my mind when it comes to censorship. On the radio, I would sometimes here the edited version that went:Candy kisses everywhere instead of You can lick me everywhere.

How about:

Lakeside
Crown Heights Affair
Black Ivory
Midnight Starr
Atlantic Star
The Jimmy Castor Bunch

Not a band but... What ever happened to Hamilton Bohannon?

The System had a cd out last summer. Wasn't bad either. Someone mentioned One Way. That's one of the most under rated groups ever. Al Hudson and Kevin Mccord wrote some classic funk with One Way. Everyone knows about Cutie Pie and Mr Groove, but how many remember the Jam "Smile" Nasty bass line! Who remembers the Deele's first album. Back when Babyface was nothing but a keyboard player lol. Body Talk still is the shit!

I wasn't saying Face wasn't a big force with The Deele. He just wasn't the Babyface we think of now. The song Sweet November was his first real showcase. As a matter of fact the stoy is, after doing his solo on that song one night, they said "Give it up for babyface everybody" They said the ladies went nuts where as before they always said Kenny Edmonds after the solo. Face said Bootsy had nicknamed him Babyface a few years earlier but it was mainly a name the band used to clown him.

Recently, the debut album by SOS Band was re-mastered,and it sounds GREAT.As for Surface,I have always wondered where they went. They released three hit albums in the late 80s,then they just vanished.

I LOVE The Deele.Their first three albums are excellent. The second album, released in 1985,features the song "Sweet November" (which Troop later covered),but the best track is another ballad called "I'll Send You Roses".This is my favorite Deele song, and it's a shame that it was never released as a single. If you guys ever come across their second album, pick it up immediately!

I remember hearing the "censored" version of "Juicy Fruit" on the pop radio stations. The regular R&B stations had no problem with the lyrics, but I guess the pop stations chickened out...lol...so,instead of the line "you can lick me everywhere",you heard the line "candy kisses everywhere".

As for Enchantment....the song "Gloria" is actually from 1977.They followed it up with the hits "Sunshine"(1977) and "It's You That I Need" (1978),which is my favorite song by them.

Cashflows' "Mine All Mine" (1986) is indeed the jam!! After years of looking for it,I finally found it a few years ago.

I really miss Midnight Star and Aurra too.Remember Midnight Star's 1984 song "Scientific Love"? That's my jam!

I have all 3 albums. Two Occasions is still my fav deele slow jame but I'll send You Roses is a close second.

Remember the Deele songs "Just My Luck"(1984) and "Shoot Em Up Movies"(1987)? There really needs to be some kind of Deele Greatest Hits CD,with maybe a few song from the first Babyface solo album (remember "Mary Mack"?).

Ah, I certainly remember Shoot 'Em Up Movies!! I was just listening to that on CD the other night!

So,you must have the 'Eyes Of A Stranger' album (1987),huh? I really like that one.The songs "Two Occasions","Shoot Em Up Movies","Let No One Separate Us" and "So Many Thangz" are all excellent.

I do have that somewhere, but I had burned that track on a personal compilation a while ago, so I was just listening to that!
