I have to admit a lil disappointed with this list. disbelief NINE dvds and that's the best you could do? Just release all the episodes in the the manner Timmy described.
I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

I tell you, they could fuck up a two car parade. I knew they would fuck this up with DVDs full of "legends" that have been played to death over the years and as for those "Soul Train Awards" shows, those were dull from day one.

I'm happier with my 58 complete episodes I recorded from WGN and Centric in the recent years. At least I've got performances from people who haven't been all over the TV for decades such as Patrice Rushen, Lakeside, Average White Band, Vanity 6, The Time, Enchantment, Brick, BT Express, Rick James, The SOS Band, The Sylvers, etc.

This is the first volume, I don't believe this will be the only set they put out. Even with the legends they included, it's only basically the legends performing from one episode. For example, the Jackson 5, those four selections are all from the same episode. Same with JB ect.

Admittedly, they could've put a lot more stuff on there, and rarer stuff too. In any case, I'm just glad to be able to see that stuff in high quality (compared to most of the Soul Train clips that are posted on YouTube lol).

I agree.I have a bunch of VHS tapes containing Soul Train footage.Bought it many years ago and the quality is less than perfect. It'll be great to finally have these performances in high quality.

But I want this to be just the beginning.Let's have some more sets like this, every six months or so! Keep it coming.

If they were going to do mainly performances and not full episodes, they should have done it like they did with "The Midnight Special" DVDs by year. You get to see some rare stuff that way. Plenty of artists on those discs, people haven't seen on TV since the 1970s such as Nick Gilder singing "Hot Child In The City" or The Trammps singing "Disco Inferno". Hell, folks like Aretha Franklin and Smokey Robinson have been all over television for decades, especially once the music video age took over. When you see them, you ain't seeing nothing you haven't seen over and over for decades. The only difference is, this time you're seeing them do it on "Soul Train". Well, whoopee.

I have those 'Midnight Special' DVDs and they are excellent.Wouldn't it be cool if they put 'Solid Gold' on DVD too? Or 'American Bandstand'?

Yeah they know how to piss on their own celebrated parade. rolleyes 40 years and you're gonna just include the legends? lol

-----
They included the legends because you don't see any of that stuff on T.V. or hear it on the radio. Those legends are a part of black history and the disco people and the 80's people are not considered legends.

Any of the live performances from Soul Train are incredible and Time/Life made the right decision.

You don't see the legends on TV or hear them on the radio anymore? What? eek When it comes to black artists, the legends are the only ones you see and hear. Aretha Franklin, Al Green, The O'Jays, etc. have been on countless awards shows and television appearances throughout the years on up to the present. You can also turn on the radio and hear them daily.

How many times have you seen artists like The Barkays, Lakeside, Cameo, Skyy, Con Funk Shun, The Gap Band, The Dazz Band, Brick, Rick James, etc. on television since their heyday? Practically never because most music shows and awards shows are geared towards white people and they are only going to bring on huge highly successful black artists (usually crossover ones) that white people are aware of. Even the black awards shows have become the same way because mainstream black music has been almost completely crossover since the shit hop era so the black legends are the only ones a lot of the younger black generation are aware of unless it is a lesser known artist that was sampled in a shit hop song. If a show like "Soul Train" (a black show) isn't going to feature the lesser known black artists that weren't either huge legends or crossover stars, then who will? As I read the list of names on those DVDs, a lot of them could have been included on an "American Bandstand" DVD collection.

I don't know where the fuck you live but as the baby boom generation moves into
Senior Citizen land you are not going to see acts from the late 60s and 70s on T.V or the hear them on the radio.

So Time Life did the right thing putting those acts on the disc. The masses don't care about CAMEO>
