This thread just seriously made my day!
I just have to wait for them to release a region 2 (or region 0) version (PAL)... Hopefully they'll actually do that. [Edited 2/25/10 3:47am] On the Org since 2005.

No Bootsy or Raydio performances huh?

I tell you, they could fuck up a two car parade. I knew they would fuck this up with DVDs full of "legends" that have been played to death over the years and as for those "Soul Train Awards" shows, those were dull from day one.
I'm happier with my 58 complete episodes I recorded from WGN and Centric in the recent years. At least I've got performances from people who haven't been all over the TV for decades such as Patrice Rushen, Lakeside, Average White Band, Vanity 6, The Time, Enchantment, Brick, BT Express, Rick James, The SOS Band, The Sylvers, etc. Andy is a four letter word.

Why not release "Soul Train: The First Five Seasons" in a ten-CD set? And then follow up with the second volume for the next five seasons, and the five seasons after that and etc., etc., etc.
This will not satisfy me...

Yeah,it's a shame that they don't include more performances from the late 70s.

This will not satisfy me... Exactly. That way you would get all the lesser known groups and less successful ones instead of the major acts that "made an impact on future generations" (translation: the ones that were played to death for decades until you got sick of hearing them). Yeah that's why i'm glad i got performances of Brass Construction and the Brothers Johnson. I've got those too. And I love the episodes I recorded because they are the full episodes and you get to see the dancers do their thing. Hell, the dancers were the star of the show. Who the hell just wants to see the entertainers only when it comes to "Soul Train"? Andy is a four letter word.

Yeah,it's a shame that they don't include more performances from the late 70s. Really just want to see those 2 episodes Don't care about having the set

If they were going to do mainly performances and not full episodes, they should have done it like they did with "The Midnight Special" DVDs by year. You get to see some rare stuff that way. Plenty of artists on those discs, people haven't seen on TV since the 1970s such as Nick Gilder singing "Hot Child In The City" or The Trammps singing "Disco Inferno". Hell, folks like Aretha Franklin and Smokey Robinson have been all over television for decades, especially once the music video age took over. When you see them, you ain't seeing nothing you haven't seen over and over for decades. The only difference is, this time you're seeing them do it on "Soul Train". Well, whoopee. Andy is a four letter word.

Mine too! I've been waiting for this for YEARS! Same here! Ok, admittedly, they could've put a lot more stuff on there, and rarer stuff too. In any case, I'm just glad to be able to see that stuff in high quality (compared to most of the Soul Train clips that are posted on YouTube ). On the Org since 2005.
