Music video DVDs: I know we got Youtube, but! but I still want proper DVD music video compilations from a lot of artists. Madonna is the only one closest to getting it right with her DOUBLE DVD Celebration package.
Prince - of course, ESPECIALLY SINCE YOUTUBE IS SCOURED REGULARLY. I don't always wanna stream those shits either. That is nice if lotu$flow3r website has the vids but the store should have a DVD available. Mariah Carey - hasn't had one since #1s which is already 10+ years ago, and some of the videos were replaced with Unplugged ones ("Someday"). If I wanted to watch Unplugged, I would cop that DVD, thanks. New Edition - that one with about 5 videos from their entire career is worse than pitiful. They better license "Candy Girl" from Streetwise/Warlock when they do the DVD properly too. Missy Elliott - had some of the tightest videos in the game but her hits compilation Respect ME did not have had an accompanying DVD.

These two are the most consistent video home DVDs I own(along with MJ's HIStory of course)...
Nippy's performance of Home from the Merv Griffin show was worth the WHOLE package,,,and Toni's set was VERY intimate because she provided commentary for all of the videos in the DVD.

I demand a COMPLETE video collection of Michael Jackson's videos The DVDs that have been released have been half assed (especially Number Ones) and a couple of videos haven't been included on any of the collections "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

My other favorites are MJ's HIStory Vol. 2, the Hits Collection WB released for Prince, and one I found by Epic Music with all of Sade's videos. I was gonna ask about that Whitney one when I made this thread. The CDs looked tricked out so I was wondering how all-out the DVD was. The DVD with the 20th Anniversary of her debut album that was released January 2010 is tight! WaterInYourBath said: I found by Epic Music with all of Sade's videos.
oww this sounds relevant! she had a "best of" CD in the 90s... I wonder if it goes with that. Does it include up to Lovers Rock?

Yeah, it has the video for "By Your Side" from that album, and 16 videos total. The title of the DVD is "Sade: Life Promise Pride Love." Home was on the 20th anniversary of her debut that came out in January too. It also had her performing at some Arista party. Totally home video styles. Mariah had some "commentary" but it wasn't directed related to the videos sometimes so it didn't feel like it was made for the DVD. Toni's would be awesome. Jeez sometimes I forget how much I loved that broad. Does it have that hit from Boomerang on it? Her video debut?

Ellie, what DVD compilations would you like to see released or improved?
I know that question is a little broad but that was my topic

honestly yall i would buy a lot of these if they were more common
even for groups that didn't have tons of videos I would buy. hell if they can produce a DVD with only 5 videos on it (20th Century Masters DVD comps for $6.99) then they can do one for fuckin' Steady B or whoever. (I know I'm dreamin)

I want DVDs of Prince's long version of "Automatic", a nice clear sounding version of "Sexuality" to replace the old VHS copy I have where the sound drops, and "Let's Pretend We're Married".
I also want music videos from Cameo from the "Cameosis" through "Alligator Woman" era, not the worn out "Word Up" era. I also want some Barkays videos, Sylvester videos, and some Donna Summer videos from the disco era. Or maybe a compilation DVD of disco videos from various artists. Andy is a four letter word.

I'm just pissed that when I get one, they always seem to improve on it with an updated release later on.
The Duran Duran Greatest one has loads of extras and alternate videos, but the menus are so fucking annoying it's just not worth putting the DVD in to bother. Now you can get a normal DVD with just the regular videos as an extra disc to the CD release.

That would be a really awesome DVD. I feel like I owned it or at least watched it before. How were the menus annoying again?

I'd like a complete Goldfrapp video collection. Their videos are second only to Björk's in their innovation and beauty. I have most of them on my iPod, but hi-def in surround sound would be really nice.

That would be a really awesome DVD. I feel like I owned it or at least watched it before. How were the menus annoying again? As far as I remember, the alternate videos were mainly as hidden Easter Eggs, and there's like a separate menu screen for each and every video. It's too much work to go through about 50 different menu screens for 5 minute videos. Doing a quick Google search: This DVD has an incredible amount of hidden features! 1.After watching "Girls on film", play it again and you will see a different version with an alternate ending. 2.Select the "Girls on film" single sleeve, highlight PLAY and press ENTER, you will see another version of the video. 3.After watching "New moon on Monday", keep playing it again and you will get 4 different versions. 4.After watching "The wild boys", play it again and you will see a different version. 5.Enlarge the "Planet Earth" sleeve, go to the bottom sleeve, press LEFT and you will see a hidden icon. Press ENTER to view a different version of the video. 6.Enlarge the "Come undone" sleeve, highlight PLAY, press LEFT and you will see a hidden icon. Press ENTER to view a different version of the video. 7.Enlarge the "Liberty" sleeve, go to the top single sleeve, press UP and you will see a hidden icon. Press ENTER to view the "Liberty" album EPK. 8.Enlarge the "Serious" sleeve, go to the album, press RIGHT and you will see a hidden icon. Press PLAY to view the multi-angle version of the video. 9.Enlarge the "Wedding album" sleeve, highlight NEXT, press DOWN and you will see a hidden icon. Press ENTER to view the "Wedding album" commercial. 10.Enlarge the "Rio" album sleeve, highlight the 3rd sleeve down, press RIGHT and you will see a hidden icon. Press ENTER to view "A day in the life" featurette. 11.Enlarge the "A view to a kill" sleeve, highlight PLAY, press RIGHT and you will see a hidden icon. Press ENTER to view an interview with John and Andy about the song. 12.Enlarge the "Wild boys" sleeve, highlight PLAY, press UP and you will see a hidden icon. Press ENTER to view an interview with Roger, Andy and Simon about the song. 13.Enlarge the "Seven and the ragged tiger" sleeve, highlight NEXT, press UP and you will see a hidden icon. Press ENTER to view an interview with Nick and Simon about the album. ----- Only none of that information was disclosed when it was first released. [Edited 2/23/10 13:06pm]

It would be nice for someone to release a compilation of all of Debarge's videos or performances. I'd take one for the group MAZE too. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

I agree with you 100% on this, when i was in music retail the biggest complaint people had was lack of music dvds that they wanted, and the thing is labels are slowly getting rid of them all together, i mean you will still get music from artists but very very very few dvd music video collections anymore. Best Buy is getting rid of the music dvd department 75-80% in size in all their stores, walmart and target have the top stuff only. And thats the issue the labels have the big box mentality, i tell people this all the time that bitch about selection in store, "you put retail with selection out of business, by supporting big box stores back then, you got what you caused so to speak". Everytime i want a friggin import cd single and i walk by the HOLE where tower records used to be i want to desstroy every single big box store. The music DVD section at Best Buy here is decent considering it is not a music store, but it is really sad the labels are not monetizing their catalog of music videos which is promotion they already paid for, from fear of not getting a space on a shelf at Walmart.
