Her story also promises to be interesting. She was engaged to Johnny Gill at one point. In 1990,she left secular music to concentrate on gospel music.

Hmm. Never knew she was engaged to Johnny. I did know she left secular music
for gospel but never heard any of her output. The last secular thing i
remember her doing is Where Do We Go From Here with Johnny.

Yeah, that's from her final Motown album,in 1989.After that, she said goodbye to secular music and began singing gospel. She had a good 10-year run, with several big R&B hits.

Interestingly, she opened for the Jacksons on their 1981 'Triumph' tour.I'm sure she will talk about that experience.Something else she may mention: her disastrous 1985 album 'I'm Not The Same Girl',an album that she has described as "a bunch of Whitney Houston rejects".It was her first real flop.

Did Gwen Dickey leave the biz when she left the band?

She left the US and moved to Europe where she still performs regularly. Here's a recent performance:

The hell it is. Their research is paper thin. The bulk of the info can be found with a quick google search or wiki read. Truly disappointed in how low the quality of these shows are. sigh

My people deserve better. Errr....

I can see your point but saying the research is paper thin is a little extreme. SSome episodes are definitely better than others. Sometimes it's not necessarily about uncovering all the unknown tidits, but bringing paper facts "to life" and putting the faces behind the stories out there.

You've got a point. I loved the Minnie Riperton Unsung but each preceding show has left me disappointed.

yeah, and she still sounds good. It's a shame that she hasn't reunited with Rose Royce yet.I see them in concert from time to time, but they always have a different female vocalist.

confuse

I would have said some other groups other than New Birth.

Cameo
Anita Baker (she never gets acknowledged)
The Whispers
Labelle (the group and not just Patti)
The Pointer Sisters
Jodeci

All of these acts deserve to be featured to me.

Not everyone knows the story of the Pointer Sisters. Their story has great high points, low points and tragedy.

Yep. Not a lot of people know how all the Pointers suffered under the glare of the spotlight.

I'll be looking forward to all but Sylvester. I've
never been a fan of Sylvester.

I'm not a fan of his either, though I hope the episode is good. From the little bit of his story I do know, it should be decent.

I am a big fan of the brave and talented Sylvester. A few years back a co-worker who I didn't expect to be a fan of his shared a story of seeing some big names in R & B on the same bill with Sylvester - problem was that Sylvester had put on such an amazing show and had worked up the crowd at the hall so much that no one wanted to follow him. He could throw down live "your ear had to be in your foot" not to know that the man had a magnificent instrument and really knew how to sing.

Very true. Started singing backing vocals for Betty Davis.

Looks like this next Unsung set is a go.
Just found out the BarKays are preparing to launch
a new cd this year called Live and More with a new
single featuring the one and only George Clinton.

Who was on the first season of Unsung?
And I don't think that the researchers made Debarge look like the Osmonds. Motown image team were the one that sold us on that look.
I like the show because of its "Behind the Music" concept. I'm actually interested in finding out what happened to these "one-time" popular acts.
As for the Sylvers, it's sad that they view these type of shows as demanding (I know that actual word wasn't used), but it can be viewed as an honored to be remembered.
