Identity

He's recorded many yearning ballads, but this one gets high marks for the
heavenly like vocals and poetic imagery ("I see a rose in the sky/I reach for you my love/and if a petal should fall/I'll catch your heart for you.")

what a shame that 99% of todays RB males suck, just plain suck, and thats not even mentioning the production

I liked Al's first 3 albums. Especially the debut and the 3rd album. U didn't like "Natalie" or "If I'm Not Your Lover"?

I didn't like his second album. The debut album is a breezy collection of 8 well-crafted tunes with virtually no filler. The second album is a bloated,over-long affair with waaaayyyyy too much filler.

Wasn't this like the last song on the tape? Dope.

Al B. was one of the most slept on producers at the time in my opinion. His twist on the New Jack Swing sound at the time was hot. Teddy Riley had just about everything on lock during that time though. He was producing for eeeeeverybody lol

Didn't Al win some award from Quincy Jones. If I recall correctly, it was some award called the Sony Innovator Award, I think.

I never bought his falsetto, but I definitely dug his sound (music).

I fell off the Al B. wagon after "Private Time and the Whole 9" and "Sexy Vs."

It took me a while to like "Private Times". I thought the ballads were good, but the uptempo songs was pretty bad (with the exception of Misunderstanding).

I agree. A highlight of eighties music in general.

I bought the album (from a bargain bin or used....I think it was like a dollar or something) and I never got into it.

When I say it took me a while to get into it, I mean like about 7 or 8 years. It's no masterpiece by any means, but I think it has some decent songs on it. lol

I might have liked this album if it was shorter. He should have kept it sweet and single: 4 slow jams and 4 uptempo jams, just like the debut. The album drags on and on and on,lol.
