5th Dimension - "Requiem: 820 Latham" The Magic Garden (1967) I like a lot of 5th Dimension albums, but I always come back to this one. All original tunes written by Jimmy Webb (save for a remake of Ticket to Ride). Great tunes, the lot of them, and this beautiful ballad is the standout for me. So many reasons I love it, but the biggest is probably that it reminds me a great deal of my favorite Webb ballad, Wichita Lineman. Billy Davis' vocals on this one really soar.

My favorite 5th Dimension, too! I think it's one of Jimmy Webb's best--great collaboration!!
My favorite pieces are Requiem, Orange Air, and Paper Cup... ... [Edited 2/18/10 7:15am] " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

My favorite pieces are Requiem, Orange Air, and Paper Cup... Great harmonies on those tunes. The arrangements (especially the horns) standout on those. Speaking of Webb, are you familiar with this album he did for Thelma Houston? Sunshower (1969) Another excellent one.

I think it's only available as an import, but it's worth tracking down. The only clip I've seen on youtube is the one remake on the album - Jumpin' Jack Flash - and it's a real trip.

This is a travesty.
There's actual music being played, melodies being sung, lyrics being interpreted. I'm willing to bet that actual musicians were used. Simply blasphemous! Where's the autotune?
But seriously folks. Nice chord changes and that sounds like Joe Osborn on bass. "The first time I saw the cover of Dirty Mind in the early 80s I thought, 'Is this some drag queen ripping on Freddie Prinze?'" - Some guy on The Gear Page
