No Saturday Night Fever was a brand and a trademark, as was Grease the film and soundtrack. The Bee Gees are getting paid big time and always were because of their ownerships/publishing, their publishing is more lucrative than anyones, Barry Gibb probably is one of the most "paid" people on earth.

It could be. But if it's possible for an actor to charge recording artists or record label for using the actor's image and stage name in order to market the album, why don't these actors go for a piece of the royalities?

It's too bad Patricia "Apollonia" Kotero wasn't aware of this. This woman could've still be making a little money today from her face on that certian Prince album.

Just saying.

John is making his money on the name and the film, he isnt stealing a cut from the artists on the soundtrack that all is decided by their own deals that the artists made and trust me the Bee Gees are getting paid big time, whether anyone else is depends on what kind of deal they were under within their own contracts. John gets paid for its showings, its re-showings, its dvd sales, its overseas sales everything.

I think people forget that the IMAGE of John pointing that whole pose was a whole era in one shot, and was an afterthought and wasnt even planned, he was just being sarcastic with the photographer for that pose, because John did 100's that day and couldnt think of another when the guy said "give me one more" well, John collected and rightly so

What about those actors using the image of other performers in their movies(not biopics, but satires and what have you?).

Are those performers entitled for a sum? Does Debra Wilson owes a BIG FAT CHUNK of her roll to Whitney Houston? lol

I mean hey, those are using other performers image as well, right? hmmm

To be honest there are not many actors/actresses smart enough to get rights up front because most of the time it involves taking a cut in pay or getting nothing at all or getting scale, and most want the check and then to move on, sorry to say, but most artists are not that bright

Lord yes, great times too, when people went out to get laid, dance, and have a good time. lol

I remember when they showed 'Saturday Night Fever' as the coming in theaters, I had gone to see 'Carrie'. The music starts and then here's Travolta wearing those clingy black polyester pants with the blow hair short hair cut. I thought, is this Vinnie Barbarino ? Damn, he looks good! lol

Only the first 2 seasons of Welcome Back Kotter is worth watching if it ever available on DVD. The series went down hill after John left to go Hollywood full-time (although he did go back as a "special guest star" for a few episodes).

So far, they have only released Season One,which I have lol

Notice John gets top picture billing on the DVD box cover. lol

THIS is just like to good ole days all over again. WBK was Gabe Kaplan's show and John Travolta still outshined him.

John Travolta could have become a 'real' singer if he had chosen to lol He actually had a Top 40 hit in 1976,"Let Her In".He's not a bad vocalist.

In the early 80s,he was working on an album that Stevie Wonder was producing. Not sure how much of it was ever completed, but it was never released.

Yep, that it! biggrin boogie

What's so funny, movie coming attractions never swayed me one way or other to come and see a movie until, 'Saturday Night Fever'. The music, Travolta's strut, and charisma just leaped off the screen. I think that's why the movie was such hit because I don't recall them doing a lot of publicity for this movie.

I think the only other movie musical that had a trailer that reeled me in was "Purple Rain". After seeing the trailer you think; "Damn..gotta see that!"

I wonder why this trailer wasn't included on the home DVD's.

I remember when this movie came out. I was 18. One of my buddies saw it before the rest of us, and we asked him what it was about.

He said, "It's about a bunch of guys just like us except they get laid".

Ouch.

No kidding.

A case can be made for John Travolta as the greatest pop icon ever.

He pretty much singlehandedly gave us disco with "Saturday Night Live" and then he created the country-western national market with "Urban Cowboy".

Besides SNF, PR, & (maybe) ABBA..The Movie, what other motion picture soundtrack sounds great enough to listen to from start to finish?

None that I know of.

Superfly, Shaft and Brotherman (unreleased blaxploitation movie soundtrack by The Final Solution) spring to mind smile

heart Brings back great childhood memories. I had a young mom and older cousins who introduced me to alot of great music and the Bee Gees were one of them! My mom used to have one of those old school early 80's mirrored framed pictures with the "how deep is your love" lyrics on it - right next to her huge old school dark brown water bed. Classic!

Travolta was a sensation on Welcome Back, Kotter. (Though I thought Fonzie was way cooler.)

Then he came out with Saturday Night Fever and ruled the world.

Then he did Grease and his career went through the roof.

Urban Cowboy wasn't the trend-setting film like the previous two, but Travolta proved himself in many genres and made millions of dollars for the movie studios.

Say what you will about the man, but he is an Icon.
