The Isley Brothers - The Brother, Brother, Brother album

I have to discuss this album. This was the transitional album (among two, the other being Givin' It Back) where the Isley Brothers, after 15 years searching, were starting to find their true sound IMHO.

Ron, Rudy & Kelly show off their finest vocals here and the younger half (Ernie, Marvin & Chris) helped to put a certain stank on it that was missing from them before. This album made you forget these were the same guys who did "Shout", "Twist & Shout" and had a period as modest stars in Motown and even the proto-funk Sly Stone-styled stuff they did later after their Motown departure.

The album was a result of how well Givin' It Back did with its singles and the Isleys go deeper into their own recordings as well as putting a more soulful, funkier stamp on pop standards (least two of them by Carole King).

Listening to it, I'm surprised with how consistent the album was with every groove from the first song (a Carole King song) to the last ("Love Put Me on the Corner"), it was such an incredible listening experience.

What are y'all's thoughts on the album and what's your favorite song on it? smile

Sounds like Ron with Rudy and Kelly singing alongside him.

"Love Put Me on the Corner" is a true classic. A type of song that could be played on both pop and R&B stations but of course the times wouldn't have allowed it even now but it sounds like both a rock and soul ballad.
