-Gregg Allman (I always loved southern rock because it was more akin to blues)
-Chris Robinson (of the black Crowes)
-Arthur Lee (of Love)
-Jimi Hendrix (not in the traditional sense but his voice worked perfectly with his music)
-Elvis Presley (yeah, Elvis)
-Robert Plant (same as Hendrix)
-I'm not sure his name but the lead singer of The Guess Who had a great voice.

Identity

Axl Rose is the best vocalist/frontman to emerge from the rock genre in the past 30 years. In fact, I think he's the last true rock star. What a shame.

If we're talking octave range, perfect pitch, ability to engage an audience and sheer passion for singing, then I'd have to go with:

Steve Perry
Axel Rose
Freddie Mercury
Robert Plant
Bono
Corey Glover

In no particular order.

Stone Cold Crazy, you know! Dance, Music, Sex. Romance.

Freddie and Queen was holdin' it down with great records - singles and long players - over a quite a long time. As evidenced by the number of covers and samples of their material, and the big shoe prints he left on my heart and head, Freddie has a place in any conversation such as this. And Joyce, too.

how can one say jimi hendrix is the same as robert plant they sound nothing alike. Roberts better btw.
Robert plant, chris cornell, Alice Cooper, steven tyler, Axl Rose, Freddie Mercury, David lee roth, John Fogerty, Mick Jagger, all should be noted as possible contenders

I agree, I think Jimi had a horrible voice. I guess he could play the guitar OK though.

He didn't have a horrible voice because songs like little miss lover and voodo chile sound awesome but he wasn't anything mega special even though he was more on the good side. He was an awsome guitar player listen to spanish castle magic and hey joe. Bottom line he can sing but i don't see him going past the 3rd or 4th round of american idol lol.
