Sounds like "Controversy"/"Mutiny". I love the Linn! That's the only thing that makes me want 2 track down this song 4 my collection. I don't really care 2 much 4 her music otherwise...

Its not really "inspired" by its a total rip, everything is the same, the breaks, the phrasing in the lyrics, almost indentical to the tee. The fact that Men At Work got sued for that "nursery rhyme" 25 years after the fact, i can see why this song has yet to see a "legal" release.

Yeah its circulating again but full and not in crappy sound quality like before, sounds like they are pushing for a Rated R re-issue

I don't think it's pretending to be anything else than a direct homage to Prince. Sure, somebody might get riled up "when the teenagers think Rihanna came up with the sound herself". But if anything, it just shows that they were ready to put their time and money to produce something that simply shows how much they like Prince.

yeahthat

I don't even mind if its a rip off, at this point, this single song beats her WHOLE discography. Its certainly the only song I listened to fully from her, over & over again lol and believe me thats saying much, because listening her wailing like a mountain goat is a complete torture in itself.

I'd be shocked to learn that Rihanna owns and has passionately worn through "Dirty Mind" and "Controversy" and wants to pay homage.

We're in an age where almost everything in the mainstream with better-than-average intellect is producer driven.

Obviously, this one seems to have more to do with the personal tastes of the producers themselves. However, trying to figure out how "Controversy" -type of stuff is done isn't something that usually happens in a minute. You'll have to try out a lot of things usually in order to get the right feel and find the sounds / voicings involved.

Nobody would proceed to record a track like that simply in order to try to make money these days. It could be considered chic by some, but not by the vast majority of the record-buying public.

So would I.

I remember journalists saying she was upset and "mortified" when someone in an airport told her she looked just like Prince one day last year. Would someone who studies him be seriously shocked/humiliated like she was? I doubt it. LOL. She ain't no Prince fan, and probably never even heard of his songs except for "1999." lol On the other hand, her hair and clothing stylists are certainly fans of him, lol.

Absolutely. I think it's very good.

I think it's wonderful to pay homage. It's one of the highest forms of flattery and respect.

I just wish there was more of it coming from singer/songwriters that could be heard by more than 100 people.

But the mainstream music scene right now is definitely deep into a "David Bow-ey" culture. wink

Exactly can we get this one in writing, it is the best thing she has ever done by far! I am with you on the whole listening to it all the way through, its alreaddy in my Top 100 on my itouch, which is saying alot because i can never get through a song of hers more than once.

This is lame just like her other songs.
Its funny because nothing about this woman says "sexualy charged" in any way. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying she's unattractive; she's just boring. Nothing about her would make me think she'd even be any good in the sack. She looks like a "lay there and take it" kind of girl. She has a nice body but she ALWAYS looks BORED; like life itself is boring to her. I can't imagine her not looking bored while doing this song.

Well heres the deal i said this day one about her and compared her to Cassie, same premise, and now she is biting all of Cassie's underground fashions, the hair the clothing etc...Cassie's "electro love" tracks are more interesting at their worst than Rihanna's hits
